The celebration of the native horse breed in the Reggio Apennines
The Ventasso Horse Fair is one of the most cherished events of the summer in the Reggio Apennines. It takes place in Ramiseto, a village that is part of the Ventasso Municipality, in the province of Reggio Emilia, in the heart of the mountainous Emilia-Romagna region, at the foot of the mountain that gives the event its name. The fair was created to revive the tradition of ancient mountain livestock fairs and to promote and protect a rare and valuable native horse breed.
The absolute protagonist is the Ventasso Horse breed, a robust and hardy horse, perfectly adapted to the mountain environment and deeply linked to the identity of the Apennine ridge communities. For decades, local authorities have been carrying out a campaign to promote and safeguard this breed, to strengthen its breeding and pass on its value. During the fair, breeders present their horses in an exhibition that is both a technical moment, an occasion for exchange, and a village celebration.
The event spans two days packed with appointments. Among the main offerings:
Great space is dedicated to zero-kilometer gastronomy: stands managed by the Pro Loco of Ramiseto and volunteers offer traditional Apennine dishes, prepared with care and local ingredients. An opportunity to discover the authentic flavors of the Reggio mountains in a convivial atmosphere.
The Ventasso Horse Fair is much more than an event: it is a moment of aggregation that brings together breeders, families, enthusiasts, and visitors around equestrian culture and the rural roots of the territory. Organized by the Pro Loco of Ramiseto with the support of the Municipality of Ventasso and numerous volunteer associations, the fair has free admission and is an excellent opportunity to discover the Reggio Apennines in one of its most genuine expressions.
The 39th Ventasso Horse Fair returns to Ramiseto on the weekend of June 20 and 21, 2026. This year again, the program includes the exhibition of the Ventasso Horse population, the horse parade through the village streets, equestrian shows, country dancing, and musical entertainment, as well as the market and gastronomic stands with zero-kilometer dishes prepared by the Pro Loco of Ramiseto. The event has free admission.
