About Varchi d'Estate
A festival that lights up the Montevarchi summer
Every year, from mid-June to early August, the historic center of Montevarchi, in the province of Arezzo, transforms into a large open-air stage. Varchi d'Estate and Estate Montevarchina are the two main pillars hosting dozens of evening events: concerts, theatrical performances, opera, family musicals, parades, shopping nights, and astronomy-themed evenings in the hilly hamlets of the Valdarno area.
The heart of the event: Piazza Varchi
The hub of the festival is Piazza Varchi, the "living room" of the historic center, where most concerts and shows are held, always starting at 9:00 PM. The formula is simple and successful: free admission, seating on a first-come, first-served basis, and a program that alternates genres, from pop music to rock tributes, opera to comedy theater, and shows designed for children at the Anfiteatro Ginestra.
Beyond the center: events in the hamlets
The festival extends beyond the center to reach the local hamlets: the Dawn Concert among the hills of Rendola at sunrise on an August morning, and the closing event, Varchi di Stelle in Moncioni, where street food and stargazing accompany the final evenings. It is a way to showcase the entire territory of Montevarchi and the upper Valdarno.
A festival built with the city
Varchi d'Estate is born from the collaboration between the municipal administration and local trade and business associations: Confcommercio, Confesercenti, CNA, the Pro Loco, and the Centro Commerciale Naturale. Alongside the performances, shopping nights like "Le Botteghe dell'Incanto" keep city center shops open late, blending culture, entertainment, and the commercial life of Montevarchi.

The 2026 edition of Varchi d'Estate consists of 17 events spread between June 18 and August 9, enlivening Piazza Varchi, the historic center, and the hamlets of Montevarchi. The festival blends live music, theater, opera, family shows, and shopping nights, all with free admission.

Getting there
Montevarchi is located in the Valdarno Aretino, in Tuscany. By train, it is served by the Montevarchi-Terranuova station on the Florence-Arezzo-Rome line. By car, it can be reached from the Valdarno exit of the A1 motorway, just a few kilometers from the center.
Admission and tickets
Almost all events are free of charge. For concerts in Piazza Varchi, seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
