The Wild West in Valsassina
The Valsassina Country Festival is considered the largest Italian country festival and every summer transforms Barzio, in Valsassina (province of Lecco), into the Italian capital of Western culture. For an entire weekend, the Lecco mountains are filled with live country music, group dances, horses, and American cars and motorcycles.
Music, Dancing, and Horses
The program alternates live concerts and country dance competitions, including the Italian dance championship, in several dedicated spaces: the Palavalsassina, a dance floor mainly for younger audiences, and the Palawihsky, dedicated to live performances and old-style country. There is a strong focus on horses with horsemanship and stockmanship demonstrations, introductory lessons for children, and gymkhanas, as well as a saloon with themed cuisine.
An Event for Families and Charity
The festival is also designed for families, with the Magic Farm, an introduction to horses for children, and an entertainment area. Organized by the association 700 Mt Soprailcielo, the event has a strong charitable focus: proceeds support charity projects. Entry to the festival area, stages, and concerts is free.

The 11th Edition of the Valsassina Country Festival
From July 10 to 12, 2026, Barzio hosts the 11th edition of the Valsassina Country Festival, organized by the association 700 Mt Soprailcielo. Three days blending music, dance, horses, and Western culture in the mountains of Valsassina.
Among the announced novelties is the presence of Natalia Estrada as godmother, trained at Buck Brannaman's school. The program includes horsemanship and stockmanship demonstrations, live country music, dance competitions, American car rallies, and numerous activities for families, including moments of animal interaction. The festival proceeds are allocated to charitable projects.

How to get there
Barzio can be reached by car from Lecco along the SP62 of Valsassina, in about 40 minutes. In summer, bus connections are available from Lecco station.
