The winter edition of the street arts and contemporary circus festival in the village of Pollina
The Valdemone Festival — Winter Edition is the cold-weather version of the historic street arts, new circus, and music festival that enlivens the village of Pollina, in the province of Palermo, every summer. In recent years, the festival has been enriched by this two-day Winter Edition, held during the Epiphany holidays, to extend the magic of the event into the colder season.
For two days, the streets and squares of Pollina's historic centre are filled with international artists, street theatre, magic acts, and surprising performances. The shows take place in evocative locations such as Piazza Duomo, Piazza San Giuliano, Piazza San Pietro, and the atmospheric Pietrarosa Theatre, an open-air amphitheatre overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The winter atmosphere of the village, with its lights and festivities, provides the backdrop for a widespread spectacle that engages audiences of all ages, from children to adults.
Like the summer edition, the Winter Edition is organized by the Municipality of Pollina with a completely renewed format and free admission. The festival's name recalls the Val Demone, the ancient historical district of north-eastern Sicily to which the Madonie belonged: a tribute to the identity of this corner of Sicily, between mountains and sea. The goal remains to promote street artists and showcase the landscape and cultural beauty of the Pollina territory.
The Winter Edition is a special occasion to experience the holidays together, share emotions, and rediscover the authentic beauty of Pollina in its winter attire. The village, with its medieval historic centre and proximity to the renowned seaside resort of Cefalù, offers the ideal setting for a festival that combines art, landscape, and Sicilian tradition even in winter.
The 2026 Winter Edition of the Valdemone Festival was held in Pollina (PA) on January 5th and 6th, during the Epiphany holidays. For two days, the village came alive with magic, street theatre, contemporary circus, and surprising performances, with international artists transforming the historic squares into a large open-air stage.
The shows took place in the squares of the historic centre, including Piazza Duomo, Piazza San Giuliano, and Piazza San Pietro, as well as the evocative Pietrarosa Theatre. Admission was free. The detailed programme, including the names of the artists and the times of individual shows, was not published in full on the online channels consulted.
Pollina is located in the Madonie mountains, in the province of Palermo. By car, it can be reached via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, taking the Castelbuono or Pollina-Finale exit, then continuing towards the historic centre. The nearest train station is Pollina-Castelbuono, on the Palermo-Messina line, from where you can continue by bus or taxi to the hilltop village.
Admission to all festival shows is free.
The shows are held outdoors in winter: warm clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended, as the historic village is characterized by narrow alleys and staircases. Nearby, you will find Cefalù and the village of Castelbuono for accommodation and dining.
