The Ice Cream Festival in Val di Zoldo

In Val di Zoldo, in the Belluno Dolomites in the province of Belluno, ice cream is not just a dessert: it's a piece of identity. The Ice Cream Festival is celebrated on March 24th, on the occasion of the European Artisanal Ice Cream Day, with a roving tasting among the huts of the Valdizoldo Skiarea, at the foot of Monte Pelmo and Civetta.

The homeland of ice cream makers

Val di Zoldo is considered one of the cradles of artisanal ice cream: starting from the 19th century, to escape the poverty of the mountains, many people from Zoldo emigrated throughout Europe, bringing the art of ice cream making with them. This heritage is still alive and celebrated today, and the festival is its symbolic moment.

How the tasting works

The day is experienced on skis: with the skipass, you receive the tasting postcard; you must visit the four mountain huts in the Skiarea, collect all the stamps, and upon completing the route, collect the Valdizoldo Funivie gadget. An original way to combine skiing, the snowy landscape of the Dolomites, and the taste of real Zoldo ice cream.

An event for the whole valley

The festival involves the entire community of Val di Zoldo and local ice cream makers, in an event that links the mountains, tradition, and the history of Zoldo emigration. Meeting point at Pian del Crep, at the top of the chairlift.
