Thousands of athletes and tens of thousands of spectators flood the town at the foot of Mont Blanc to experience the ultimate ultratrail up close.

The trail running week around Mont Blanc

The UTMB Mont-Blanc is the global benchmark for trail running: a week of races winding around the Mont Blanc massif, crossing Italy, France, and Switzerland. Courmayeur, in the Aosta Valley, is the event's main Italian base and the starting point for some of the most demanding races, offering days of great sporting celebration.

Races starting from Courmayeur

Several UTMB week races begin in the Aosta Valley town:

  • TDS — 148 km, starting from Courmayeur, one of the most technical races on the circuit;
  • CCC (Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix) — 101 km with approximately 6000 m of elevation gain, from Courmayeur to Chamonix, the '100K finale' of the UTMB World Series;
  • ETC — Experience Trail Courmayeur, the shortest distance, starting and finishing in town.

The main event, the UTMB (over 170 km), starts from Chamonix but crosses the Aosta Valley region, passing through Courmayeur.

A global event

With thousands of athletes from dozens of nations and an impressive audience, the UTMB Mont-Blanc transforms Courmayeur, in the province of Aosta, into one of the world capitals of endurance. Participation requires accumulating 'Running Stones' or qualifying through the UTMB World Series, testifying to the event's absolute level.
