The art fair of Val Gardena sculptors in Ortisei
If there is one place in Italy where wood carving is a living, world-renowned art form, it is Val Gardena, in the province of Bolzano. Every year, in Ortisei/St. Ulrich, the UNIKA – Sculptors' Fair celebrates this heritage by bringing together the finest works of local artists under one roof. Established in 1994, UNIKA has become the most important showcase for the valley's artistic craftsmanship and a key cultural event in South Tyrol.
At the Tenniscenter in Runggaditsch/Roncadizza, members of the UNIKA association exhibit over 200 works across more than 500 m² of space. The collection includes wood sculptures, paintings, and photographs ranging from sacred motifs and portraits to classic representations and experimental modern interpretations. This is more than just an exhibition: during the fair, sculptors, gilders, and polychrome artists work in front of the public, demonstrating how these marvelous Val Gardena creations are born, from raw wood to the final finish.
What makes UNIKA special is its commitment to authenticity. Every piece on display is handcrafted by artists from the valley and bears the official seal and certificate from the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce, guaranteeing its Val Gardena origin and uniqueness. When you purchase a piece at UNIKA, you take home an unrepeatable work of art, the fruit of a tradition passed down through generations in Ortisei and across Val Gardena.
Thanks to a free shuttle service connecting Ortisei to the Tenniscenter, the fair is easily accessible. The event is family-friendly, with free admission for those under 18. The highlight is the famous UNIKA's LONG Night, the closing evening featuring extended hours, music, and a unique atmosphere among the artworks. Whether you are a collector, an art enthusiast, or simply a curious traveler in the Dolomites, UNIKA is the perfect opportunity to discover the most authentic side of Val Gardena.
The UNIKA art fair returns to Ortisei/St. Ulrich from September 10 to 13, 2026, for its 32nd edition. At the Tenniscenter in Runggaditsch/Roncadizza, 34 Val Gardena artists will present approximately 200 works spread across over 500 m² of exhibition space. Some works this year will be part of the Cultural Olympiad linked to the Winter Olympic Games in the Dolomites.
Every piece is certified by the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce, guaranteeing its Val Gardena origin and uniqueness.
