The widespread climate and environment festival arrives in Oulx, in the Upper Susa Valley
Un Grado e Mezzo is a festival dedicated to the climate and environment that, following its editions in Turin and at high altitudes, extends its widespread itinerary to Oulx in 2026, an important crossroads in the Upper Susa Valley, in the Metropolitan City of Turin (Piedmont). The festival is conceived and promoted by the CentroScienza Association as part of the Science Weeks, under the scientific direction of climatologist Elisa Palazzi.
The title "Un Grado e Mezzo" (One and a Half Degrees) refers to the goal of the 2015 Paris Agreement: to limit the increase in global average temperature to 1.5ยฐC above pre-industrial levels, the threshold beyond which the effects of global warming become more severe and difficult to reverse. This number inspired a festival that places climate science at the heart of public discourse, in a rigorous yet accessible way.
The 2026 edition is themed "If the mountains are healthy, we are healthy too": the highlands are portrayed as sentinels of climate change, where glaciers, snow, forests, and soil are the first to show the effects of global warming. It is a perspective that takes on a particularly concrete meaning in Oulx, a mountain town overlooking the Alpine passes towards France.
The festival brings a program of thematic talks, open-air dialogues, family workshops, and scientific outreach moments suitable for all ages to its locations. Announced guests for the festival include climatologists, mountain writers, and communicators such as Elisa Palazzi, Luca Mercalli, Marco Paolini, Enrico Camanni, Giorgio Vacchiano, and the activist and cartoonist Alessia Iotti (Alterales).
More than just a single event, Un Grado e Mezzo is a widespread festival that spans various locations, from Turin to the Alpine towns of Bardonecchia and Oulx. This itinerant format allows visitors to experience climate issues not only in the city but directly in the landscapes most exposed to change, making the experience more tangible and immediate.
The fourth edition of Un Grado e Mezzo runs from June 5th to July 30th, 2026, opening on World Environment Day. The festival is curated by climatologist Elisa Palazzi and promoted by the CentroScienza Association as part of the Science Weeks, in collaboration with the National Mountain Museum, the CNR of Turin, Orti Generali, and the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences.
The 2026 theme, "If the mountains are healthy, we are healthy too", focuses on the highlands as indicators of the planet's health. In Oulx, as in the other locations, meetings, dialogues, and workshops for all ages are expected.
The 2026 festival features a widespread program across Turin, Bardonecchia, and Oulx, from June 5th to July 30th. Precise dates, times, and locations for the Oulx events will be announced on the official website ungradoemezzo.it.
Among the guests and protagonists announced for the 2026 edition:
The types of events planned include thematic talks, open-air dialogues, family workshops, and immersive experiences between science and nature. The detailed program for Oulx will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
Among the most anticipated moments of the fourth edition: the open-air dialogue between Elisa Palazzi and Marco Paolini, high-altitude meetings with Luca Mercalli, and family workshops with cartoonist and activist Alessia Iotti (Alterales).
Oulx can be reached by train (Oulx-Cesana-Claviere-Sestriere station, on the Turin-Modane/Bardonecchia line) or by car via the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway, Oulx exit. The town is a hub in the Upper Susa Valley, well-connected to Turin in about an hour.
Most festival initiatives are free, with reservations often recommended for meetings and workshops with limited capacity. It is advisable to check access methods and bookings on the official website ungradoemezzo.it.
