The Umbria Balloon Festival is a large regional programme dedicated to hot air balloons, which in 2026 debuts by touching fourteen locations in Umbria. One of the most anticipated stops is at Lake Trasimeno, in Castiglione del Lago, in the province of Perugia, where the balloons become the protagonists of flights and shows overlooking the water.
The Trasimeno Night Glow
The most evocative moment is the Trasimeno Night Glow: at dusk, the hot air balloons, illuminated by the burners, light up to the rhythm of music, creating a light show that reflects on the lake. Even in its first appearance, the Night Glow at Trasimeno had attracted thousands of spectators, fascinated by the magic of the balloons shining in the dark like giant fireflies.
Flights and shows
In addition to the night show, the stop offers free flights and tethered flights, allowing the public to admire the hot air balloons up close and, in some cases, to board. The event combines the aerial spectacle with the enhancement of the territory, including food and wine, music, and cultural attractions, in one of the most beautiful landscape settings in Umbria.
Umbria Balloon Festival — edition 2026
In 2026, the first edition of the Umbria Balloon Festival (April 25 - September 20, 14 Umbrian municipalities) is launched. The Trasimeno leg takes place in Castiglione del Lago from July 24 to 26, with free flights, tethered flights, and the highlight: the Trasimeno Night Glow, the evening show of illuminated hot air balloons, scheduled for July 25 and 26.
The balloons light up in the dark to the rhythm of music, reflecting on the lake water. The stop is part of a regional tour that will then continue to Todi (July 31 - August 2) and Terni (Night Glow on September 5-6).

The leg is part of the first edition of the Umbria Balloon Festival, the "Volando in Umbria" programme that runs from April 25 to September 20, 2026, in 14 municipalities in the region, with other Night Glows announced in Terni (September 5-6).

How to get there
Castiglione del Lago (PG) is located on Lake Trasimeno. By car from the Bettolle-Perugia junction; by train the station is on the Florence-Rome line. The event takes place in the lake/airport area.
Admission
The Night Glow show is open to the public. For flights (free or tethered) and any onboard experiences, it is advisable to check procedures and bookings on the official festival channels.
