The Verbano-Cusio-Ossola half marathon between Lake Maggiore and Lake Mergozzo
The Two Lakes Half Marathon is one of the most anticipated events on the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola running calendar in Piedmont. Organized by Sport PRO-MOTION A.S.D., the race combines the waters of Lake Maggiore and Lake Mergozzo into a single fast and scenic course, offering participants one of the most beautiful routes in Northern Italy.
Although the start and finish are at the Pala Cipir in Gravellona Toce, the race has always been closely linked to the Municipality of Baveno (Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola): the route passes through the hamlet of Feriolo, where athletes run just meters from the shores of Lake Maggiore, in one of the most picturesque spots of the entire itinerary.
The flagship distance is the 21.097 km half marathon, FIDAL-certified and featuring the prestigious FIDAL Bronze Label. From Pala Cipir, runners head towards Feriolo, skirt Lake Maggiore in the direction of Fondotoce, and continue through the municipalities of Mergozzo and Ornavasso before returning to the finish line. A shorter 10 km race is also available, which is also certified, with the finish line in Mergozzo. Both distances can be run competitively or non-competitively.
Regarded by enthusiasts as one of the most beloved races for runners in Northern Italy, the Two Lakes Half Marathon attracts hundreds of participants from many different nations. A curious record accompanies the event: the mayor of Gravellona Toce has completed every single edition as a runner, a symbol of the deep bond between the race and its territory.
For those visiting Lake Maggiore, the Two Lakes Half Marathon is also the perfect opportunity to discover Baveno, Feriolo, and the villages overlooking the lake during one of the most beautiful seasons of the year, when spring colors the shores of the Verbano.
The 27th edition of the Two Lakes Half Marathon took place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, with a single start at 9:00 AM from the Pala Cipir in Gravellona Toce for both the 21.097 km half marathon and the 10 km race, both FIDAL Bronze Label certified. The event recorded approximately 850 registrations, with 29.96% female participation and athletes from 18 nations. The route passed through Feriolo, a hamlet of Baveno, along Lake Maggiore, before touching Mergozzo and Ornavasso and returning to the finish line.
In the half marathon, victory and a new course record went to Roberto Giacomotti (Sport Project VCO) in 1h08'08", while Sara Locatelli (Sport Project VCO) triumphed among the women in 1h22'56". In the 10 km, victories went to Thomas Colombo (Varese Atletica, 31'00") and Beatrice Vignati (US Sangiorgese, 39'29"). Notably, the mayor of Gravellona Toce once again participated, crossing the finish line of his 27th consecutive edition.
The start and finish are at the Pala Cipir in Gravellona Toce (VB), easily accessible from the A26 motorway (Gravellona Toce exit). The most scenic part of the race is along the lakefront of Feriolo, a hamlet of Baveno.
Registration is available online via the Endu platform and through the official website mezza2laghi.it. A limited number of race bibs are also available at the event village during the race weekend.
Bibs can be collected at the village set up at the Pala Cipir, generally on Saturday (10:00 AM - 7:00 PM) and Sunday morning before the start (7:00 AM - 8:30 AM).
Refreshment stations are provided along the course and at the finish line, along with a secure bag drop, changing rooms, and showers. Each participant receives a race pack with a technical t-shirt and a finisher medal.
