The scenic marathon along the shores of Lake Maggiore, from Arona to Verbania
The Lago Maggiore Marathon is the most anticipated running event in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area and one of the most evocative marathons in Piedmont. Organized by ASD Sport PRO-MOTION, the event attracts thousands of participants every year who run along the western shores of Lake Maggiore, starting in Arona and finishing in Verbania Pallanza, in the heart of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province.
The 42 km marathon route follows the lakeside road, passing through some of the region's most famous villages: Meina, Lesa, Belgirate, Stresa, and Baveno, with constant views of the Borromean Gulf and its islands. It is a flat, fast, and above all spectacular route, which has earned the race its reputation as "one of the most scenic courses in Italy."

In recent years, the Lago Maggiore Marathon has grown into an international attraction, drawing thousands of athletes from dozens of different countries. The race also awards FIDAL titles and rankings, attracting both elite runners and amateurs looking for a challenge in a unique natural setting.
The finish line is set in Verbania, the capital of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, which overlooks the lake and is famous for its gardens and mild climate. Running the marathon in autumn is also a perfect way to discover the Piedmont lake district in its warmest colors, amidst parks, historic villas, and the timeless charm of Lake Maggiore.
The fifteenth edition of the Lago Maggiore Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026. The marathon (42 km) and the half marathon start from Arona at 09:00, the 33 km at 09:30, while the 10 km starts from Verbania Fondotoce at 11:30. The award ceremonies are scheduled in Verbania Pallanza in the early afternoon.
Online registration remains open until November 4, 2026. The Race Village opens on Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, for bib collection.

Verbania is accessible by car via the A26 motorway (Verbania exit) and by train to the Verbania-Pallanza/Fondotoce stations. The start is in Arona, which is connected to Verbania by train and bus along the lakeshore.
Registration is available online at the official website lagomaggioremarathon.it. Indicative fees: marathon €60-90, 33 km €50-80, half marathon €35-55, 10 km €25-45 (prices vary based on registration tiers). Discounts are available for large groups.
The Race Village opens on the Friday and Saturday before the race for bib collection and last-minute registration.
