The school theatre review at the Verdi Theatre in Pollenza
Every year, in May, the Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in Pollenza (province of Macerata, in the Marche region) fills with the voices, costumes, and energy of students from the area. This is the Tuttascena review, one of the longest-running school theatre experiences in the region: a week in which the stage becomes a space for play, learning, and growth for children and young people from primary and lower secondary schools.
For several days, school theatre groups take turns on the stage of the Verdi, presenting performances prepared during the school year with the patient work of teachers, educators, and theatre experts. The performances range from reinterpretations of literary classics to adaptations of fairy tales and myths, from original texts written by the pupils themselves to musical and dance projects. A jury follows all the performances and, on the final evening, awards prizes in various categories: best production, best performers, best original text, costumes, set design, choreography, and musical performance.
Tuttascena is not just a competition, but a true educational project that values theatre as a tool for inclusion and expression. Taking to the stage helps young people overcome shyness, work in groups, and discover new languages. The final event, also enlivened by the Comprehensive Institute's orchestra, is a celebration that brings together pupils, families, and teachers in the audience.
The review is promoted by the "V. Monti" Comprehensive Institute of Pollenza together with the Municipality of Pollenza, with the support of local organizations and sponsors. It involves schools from all over the Macerata and Marche area, from Pollenza to Macerata, Corridonia, San Severino Marche, Casette Verdini, Monte Urano, and Torre San Patrizio, confirming its role as a regional event.
Attending Tuttascena means discovering theatre in its most authentic and spontaneous form: that of children and young people who, for an evening, become protagonists. For local families, it is an anticipated event; for those visiting the Marche in spring, it is an opportunity to experience a community event in the heart of a historic village in the province of Macerata.
The 24th edition of Tuttascena brought theatre groups from numerous local schools to the stage of the Giuseppe Verdi Theatre in Pollenza, from May 18 to 26, 2026. The event, hosted by Matteo Pasquali, featured performances accompanied by the orchestra of the "V. Monti" Comprehensive Institute (21 students directed by teachers Eugenio Gasparrini, Laura Serarcangeli, and David Padella). Among the participating schools were I.C. "E. Fermi" of Macerata, the "A. Frank" primary school of Pollenza, the "C. Urbani" primary school of Casette Verdini, the I.C. "Manzoni-Lanzi" of Corridonia, and the secondary schools of Torre San Patrizio and Pollenza. A week that combined theatre, music, and inclusion, rewarding the efforts of children, young people, and teachers.
For a week, school theatre groups took turns on the stage of the Verdi Theatre with performances prepared during the school year, evaluated by a jury that awarded prizes on the final evening.
The jury for the 2026 edition included Lorenzo Macedoni, Maria Rita Marilungo, Simonetta Pettinari, Verdiana Salvi, and Lucia Rosa.
