About Ginesio Fest

Ginesio Fest is the theatre festival that transforms the medieval village of San Ginesio, in the province of Macerata, into a widespread stage every August. Directed by Leonardo Lidi, it combines performances, national premieres, artistic residencies, workshops, and meetings, culminating in the San Ginesio Prize "For the Actor's Art". The 2026 edition, from August 25th to 30th, is the seventh and has the theme "Illusions".

A theatre festival in the Sibillini Mountains

Ginesio Fest is one of the most recognizable theatre events in the Marche region. Every summer, the village of San Ginesio, in the province of Macerata and part of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" circuit, becomes a large, widespread stage: squares, cloisters, theatres, and courtyards in the historic centre host performances, national premieres, artistic residencies, workshops, and meetings. Overlooking the Sibillini Mountains and part of the Monti Azzurri Mountain Union, the village offers an unusual and evocative setting where contemporary theatre dialogues with the identity of a town marked by history and post-earthquake reconstruction.

The San Ginesio Prize "For the Actor's Art"

The heart of the event is the San Ginesio Prize "For the Actor's Art", conceived by actor Remo Girone to honour an actor and an actress each year who have distinguished themselves during their careers. It is no coincidence that the award is based here: San Ginesio is, in fact, the town that bears the name of the patron saint of actors and theatre professionals. Past recipients include prominent figures in Italian theatre such as Massimo Popolizio, Lino Guanciale, Giuseppe Battiston, Vanessa Scalera, Lino Musella, Federica Fracassi, and Paolo Pierobon.

The seventh edition 2026

Founded in 2020, the festival is led by director Leonardo Lidi, in his fifth consecutive artistic direction. The seventh edition takes place from August 25th to 30th, 2026, and its theme is "Illusions", understood as a collective, fragile, and necessary possibility through which theatre continues to build community, imagination, and the future. The edition is dedicated to the memory of Remo Girone: the Prize will bear his name from this year onwards, "Premio Remo Girone". The new jury is chaired by Alessio Boni and includes Lino Musella, Iaia Forte, Rodolfo Di Giammarco, Francesca Merloni, and Giampiero Solari.

A village that lives for theatre

In addition to evening performances, Ginesio Fest offers a programme of residencies, seminars, and workshops for professionals, young people, and children, sound walks, and special projects designed for the local area. It is an opportunity to discover the heritage of San Ginesio and the Monti Azzurri mountains by experiencing the village from within, between one performance and another, immersed in the intimate atmosphere of a town that breathes to the rhythm of the stage for a few days.
