The white truffle takes center stage in the Laga Mountains

In the heart of the Abruzzo mountains during autumn, the village of Poggio Umbricchio, part of the Crognaleto municipality in the province of Teramo, transforms into a sanctuary of taste. The Tuber Magnatum — White Truffle and Noble Virtues festival celebrates the prized Tuber magnatum pico, the white truffle that finds one of its most suitable habitats in the lands of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. Established in 2016 to promote and safeguard a noble local product, the festival has grown into what the organizers call a true collective ritual.

A "Quality Festival"

The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Poggio Umbricchio APS with the patronage of the Municipality of Crognaleto, the BIM Consortium, the GAL Gran Sasso Laga, the Gran Sasso d'Italia Chamber of Commerce, UNPLI-Federproloco, and the Abruzzo Region. The national "Quality Festival" (Sagra di Qualità) recognition by UNPLI honors the care with which the event combines gastronomic excellence, tradition, culture, and community spirit.

The beating heart of the festival is the food stalls, where ancient recipes and modern creativity intertwine around the white truffle. Among the most beloved specialties are the scrippelle 'mbusse with truffle, a dish that tells the story of the simple yet refined soul of Teramo cuisine.
