The truffle celebration in Civita di Oricola, in the Piana del Cavaliere
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Truffle Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in Civita di Oricola, a hillside hamlet in the municipality of Oricola. Located at the western edge of the L'Aquila province in the area known as Piana del Cavaliere, on the border between Abruzzo and Lazio, the small village transforms into an open-air lounge for one evening, dedicated to the king of the table: the truffle.
The truffle, the fruiting body of an underground fungus with a penetrating and persistent aroma, has always been one of the treasures of the countryside and woods surrounding the Piana del Cavaliere. The festival was created to promote this product and local gastronomic traditions, offering visitors the opportunity to savor typical dishes prepared with care and enhanced by this prized ingredient.
The heart of the event is the food stalls set up in Piazza San Pio da Pietralcina, where you can taste Abruzzo specialties enriched with truffles. The atmosphere is that of a traditional village festival: outdoor dining tables, aromas wafting through the alleys, and a spirit of authentic joviality that accompanies the evening.
The festival is designed for the whole family. In the afternoon, the event area comes alive with colorful inflatables and free recreational activities for children, while in the evening, the square lights up with live music and performances that keep the party lively until late.
The event is promoted by the Patronal Festival Committee of Civita di Oricola and the Piana del Cavaliere, known for its constant commitment to enhancing the culture and traditions of the area. The Truffle Festival is part of the calendar of celebrations that enliven the village during the summer, helping to keep the bond between the community and its roots alive.
For those who love good food and the genuine atmosphere of the small villages in the Abruzzo Apennines, the Truffle Festival of Civita di Oricola is an unmissable opportunity: a dive into the authentic flavors of western Marsica, just a stone's throw from the border with Lazio and easily accessible along the Turano Valley.
The program for the 2026 edition has not yet been released by the Patronal Festival Committee of Civita di Oricola. Based on previous editions, the festival is expected to take place in August in Piazza San Pio da Pietralcina, with children's entertainment in the afternoon and truffle-themed food stalls in the evening.
