The richest Open tennis tournament in Campania, played on the clay courts of the Circolo Tennis Lusciano
The Trofeo StringLab is the Open tennis tournament that brings the clay courts of the Circolo Tennis Lusciano, in the town of Lusciano, Province of Caserta, to life every summer. Born as a local initiative in the Agro Aversano area, it has grown over five editions into one of the most anticipated competitive events on the Campania tennis calendar, drawing athletes from all over Italy and abroad.
The hallmark of the event is its prize money: 11,000 euros for the 2026 edition—a purse described by organizers as unique in the regional landscape and significantly higher than the average Italian Open tournament. This is precisely what allows the Caserta-based club to attract second-category players, former professionals, and ATP-ranked athletes, elevating a provincial tournament into a high-level technical event.
The Trofeo StringLab is not reserved for the elite alone. Alongside the Open men's singles bracket—featuring 64 athletes in 2026—and the men's doubles with eight pairs, the program includes third and fourth-category brackets, which involve around a hundred local players each year. This is a deliberate choice: to have elite tennis and local club play coexist on the same courts, offering Campanian club members the chance to compete in a high-profile setting.
The tournament bears the name of StringLab, a tennis string brand founded in 2015 by Luigi Bortone, a Campanian entrepreneur who turned his passion for tennis into a nationally and internationally recognized business. The company is based right in Lusciano, where it complements its online sales with a physical shop inside the club hosting the event: a direct link between business and sport that explains the event's continuity and growth. The tournament is directed by Lorenzo Bortone, while the role of head referee is held by Gennaro Caporaso.
The Circolo Tennis Lusciano features clay courts, which are covered during the winter season, and is primarily known in the province for its tennis school for young players. Following the success of recent editions, the organizers have announced plans to expand the facility and aim, in the future, to organize an international tournament. The event enjoys the support of the Municipality of Lusciano: Mayor Marco Valentino attended the 2026 award ceremony.
For those visiting the area, Lusciano is located just a few kilometers from Aversa and half an hour from the Royal Palace of Caserta: the tournament is a perfect opportunity to discover a corner of Campania off the beaten tourist path.
The fifth edition of the Trofeo StringLab confirmed the Circolo Tennis Lusciano as one of the most vibrant competitive hubs in Campania. Two weeks of play, from June 28 to July 11, 2026, with a total prize pool of 11,000 euros: a figure that brought players from various Italian regions and abroad to the courts of the Caserta town, many of whom have experience on the professional circuits.
The absolute bracket was won by Luca Potenza, a 25-year-old from Licata playing for the Circolo del Tennis Palermo and ranked 438th in the ATP. As the number 1 seed, Potenza closed the final against Fabrizio Osti with a commanding 6-1, 6-1. His victory held special significance: in August 2024, the Sicilian had undergone surgery for vocal cord cancer and returned to training just eighteen days after the procedure.
In the men's doubles, victory went to Pasquale De Giorgio and Giuseppe Caparco, who defeated the pair formed by Mariano Tammaro and Fabrizio Osti in a super tie-break 10-7, in the presence of Lusciano Mayor Marco Valentino. In the brackets reserved for lower categories, Donato Cerrone won in the third category and Giuseppe Bonetti in the fourth.
At the end of the event, patron Luigi Bortone reiterated his desire to further grow the event, defining it as the central appointment of the club's season and announcing the ambition to transform it into an international tournament, with a possible expansion of the facility.
The event took place over two weeks of play on the clay courts of the Circolo Tennis Lusciano, from June 28 to July 11, 2026.
