The end-of-course race of the Sci Club Bolbeno, held at Italy's lowest-altitude ski resort
The Trofeo Giovanissimi is the annual event held at the end of February that concludes the ski courses of the Sci Club Bolbeno. It takes place at the Centro Sci Bolbeno-Borgo Lares, in the municipality of Borgo Lares (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige), on the slopes of the ski resort considered the lowest in Italy: the lifts start at just under 600 meters above sea level and rise to nearly 800 meters along the Chiese Valley, at the gateway to the Giudicarie Valleys.
More than a competitive race, the Trofeo Giovanissimi is the fitting conclusion to the winter courses: a day designed to reward the efforts of all the young students who learned to take their first steps on skis during the season. The race is held simultaneously on two specially prepared slopes, the red and the blue, divided by age category. Registration is automatic for those who attended the Sci Club courses: no formalities, just picking up the bib in the morning.
In recent years, the event has reached impressive figures for a local town: nearly 800 young skiers registered, a national record for an end-of-course race. This success is also due to the recent renovation of the center, with the doubling of the skiable area and the commissioning of a new quad chairlift, which has eliminated queues and allowed for an increasing number of families to be welcomed.
The Trofeo Giovanissimi is not just a sporting event, but a great moment of gathering for the community of the Giudicarie Valleys and beyond. Parents, friends, and supporters of the young athletes line the slopes, cheering and encouraging the competitors. As the president of the Sci Club emphasizes, the goal is to pass on to the children not only skiing technique but also values such as commitment and respect for others.
The day includes a complimentary lunch trackside, entertainment for children in the early afternoon, and the collective awards ceremony: every participant present receives a trophy as recognition for the effort put in during the season. It is an opportunity to celebrate all the children, not just the winners, and to honor the spirit of a small resort that, season after season, nurtures hundreds of young skiers.
The 24th edition of the Trofeo Giovanissimi was held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, on the slopes of the Centro Sci Bolbeno-Borgo Lares. The day began at 8:00 AM with the collection of bibs at the building near the lift departure; at 9:00 AM, the races started simultaneously on the red and blue slopes.
Nearly 800 young skiers took part in the event, a record number for an end-of-course race, boosted by the recent upgrade of the resort. At the end of the trials, a complimentary lunch was served trackside, followed by children's entertainment and, at 1:30 PM, the collective awards ceremony with a trophy for every participant present. As Sci Club Bolbeno president Marco Perottino recalled, seeing the children tackle the course with determination and passion is proof that the club's hard work has paid off.
The Centro Sci Bolbeno-Borgo Lares is located at Via Sant'Antonio 19, in Borgo Lares (TN), in the Chiese Valley. By car, it can be reached via the SS237 del Caffaro; from the A22 Brennero motorway, take the Trento Sud exit and continue towards the Giudicarie Valleys. Free shuttle buses are available for those parking away from the center, with return trips at the end of the event.
Registration for the Trofeo Giovanissimi is automatic and reserved for participants of the Sci Club Bolbeno courses. Lunch on the day of the race is provided free of charge, with no meal vouchers required. For information: Centro Sci +39 0465 326485, Sci Club +39 348 3031420.
