The 10 km road race in the heart of Niscemi
The Trofeo Città di Niscemi is a 10-kilometer road race that brings the streets of the historic center of Niscemi to life every spring. Located in the province of Caltanissetta, in the heart of Sicily, the event was established in 2025 and has quickly become one of the most anticipated fixtures in the Sicilian running calendar, blending competitive spirit with local pride and community engagement.
The race takes place on a 2.5 km city circuit repeated four times, entirely within the town. The start and finish lines are located in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III, the beating heart of the event. The route winds through Via Regina Margherita, Via Mazzini, Via Marconi, Via Umberto, and Via IV Novembre, with the turnaround point near Via Brindisi. It is a fast and technical loop that allows athletes to clock competitive times while offering spectators a front-row view of the action throughout the town center.
Organized by A.S.D. Niscemi Running with the support of the Municipality of Niscemi, the Trophy is approved by the FIDAL Judges Group and certified to World Athletics international standards with a Bronze Label. The race is part of the Sicily Bronze Races circuit, which brings together the island's premier road races, and welcomes categories ranging from Allievi, Juniores, and Promesse to Seniores and Master, both male and female, alongside youth races for Esordienti and Cadetti.
More than just a competition, the Trofeo Città di Niscemi is a celebration of sport that highlights the values of passion, participation, and local identity. The event draws athletes from every Sicilian province and various Italian regions, transforming the entire center of Niscemi into a grand running stage for a morning. The presence of local sprinter Alice Mangione—the Italian indoor 400-meter record holder—since the very first edition has further strengthened the bond between the event and the city's sporting pride.
The event continues to grow year after year, both in terms of participant numbers and sporting prestige. For those who love running and wish to discover an authentic corner of inland Sicily, the Trofeo Città di Niscemi is the ideal opportunity to combine competition, hospitality, and local tradition in the territory of Niscemi.
