The 10 km road race in the heart of the Cape City
The Trofeo Città di Milazzo is one of the most cherished road races in the province of Messina. Every year, as autumn begins, the historic centre of Milazzo transforms into a grand sporting festival. The streets along the seafront and the squares overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea are closed to traffic to welcome runners, while families, fans, and spectators gather along the route to cheer on the athletes.
The event features a competitive 10-kilometre race, held on a completely flat urban loop of approximately 2.5 km, which is completed four times. The start and finish lines are located in the heart of the city on Via Francesco Crispi, in front of the Town Hall, with the course crossing the centre and running along the iconic Milazzo seafront. The fast, level track makes the Trofeo an ideal event for those looking to set a personal best.
The Trofeo Città di Milazzo is a Bronze-level race included in the national FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation) calendar and serves as a stage of the Sicily Grand Prix, the regional circuit that awards the Sicilian title. Participation is open to FIDAL-registered athletes from the 'allievi' category upwards, as well as Runcard holders. Its inclusion in the regional circuit draws approximately 300 participants from the island's leading running clubs each year.
The event is organized by ASD Polisportiva Milazzo in collaboration with AIDO (Italian Association for Organ Donation) and under the patronage of the Municipality of Milazzo. Beyond the competition, the Trofeo has always been a moment of community: at the finish line, the families of the organizing club's athletes prepare tables of sweet and savoury treats to welcome runners and their supporters, in the convivial atmosphere that has become the event's hallmark.
Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in the north-eastern part of Sicily, Milazzo is one of the most fascinating towns in the Messina area, dominated by its Castle and the Cape peninsula that stretches towards the Aeolian Islands. Running along its seafront means combining sport with the beauty of a unique Mediterranean landscape, on a September day that perfectly rounds off the Milazzo summer.
The 2026 edition of the Trofeo Città di Milazzo, the eleventh in the event's history, is confirmed for Sunday, 20 September 2026. The 10-kilometre competitive race will once again be held on the fast urban circuit, starting from the centre of Milazzo.
The race maintains its status as a stage of the Sicily Grand Prix and its place in the national FIDAL calendar. Detailed programme information for the 2026 edition (final schedules, prize money, and registration procedures) will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the race.
The 2026 edition (11th) is scheduled for Sunday, 20 September 2026. The start is traditionally set for the morning on Via Francesco Crispi, in the centre of Milazzo.
By car: A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, take the Milazzo exit, then follow signs for the city centre. By train: Milazzo station on the Messina-Palermo line, connected to the centre by bus service. By plane: Catania-Fontanarossa airport (approx. 1h30) or Reggio Calabria.
Registrations are handled by ASD Polisportiva Milazzo. For information: email [email protected], tel. +39 330 369565. The race is reserved for FIDAL-registered athletes and Runcard holders.
