A Ciociaria village turns into a nativity scene: faith, ancient crafts, and community spirit
The Trivigliano Living Nativity is one of the most beloved Christmas events in the Ciociaria region. On Boxing Day and New Year's Day, the historic center of this small town in the province of Frosinone—perched at an altitude of about 780 meters just a few kilometers from Fiuggi—transforms into a Bethlehem of yesteryear. The alleys, cellars, and small squares of the village host dozens of animated scenes in an immersive journey that weaves together the sacred and the everyday.
Born from the passion of volunteers, families, and participants of all ages, the living nativity reached its 26th edition in 2025-2026. The strength of the event lies in the synergy between the local parish and the large group of organizers: the Living Nativity Group of the Santa Maria Assunta Parish, led in recent years by parish priest Father Rosario Vitagliano, coordinates an organizational machine that involves the entire community. It is no coincidence that the local press has described the event as "a nativity scene that tells not only the story of the Nativity but also focuses on people, inclusion, and the value of community."
Along the route, which winds through the village streets, visitors encounter the representation of the Nativity alongside faithful reconstructions of rural Ciociaria life scenes: the market, workshops, ancient crafts, and moments of daily life from the past. Reports speak of about forty tableaux animated by over two hundred participants, with carefully crafted costumes and realistic settings that recreate the atmosphere of a village from centuries ago, complete with animals.
The quality of the performance has brought Trivigliano far beyond provincial borders. On December 14, 2024, the village's participants were protagonists in Rome, on the parvis of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, as part of the "City of Living Nativities" event. Over fifty volunteers in costume, with animals in tow, recreated the market and typical crafts of the nativity, and the delegation took part in an audience with Pope Francis.
The Boxing Day 2025 edition recorded over 5,000 visitors in a single evening, confirming the Trivigliano nativity as one of the most popular in the Lazio region. Mayor Gianluca Latini emphasized how this result rewards "the commitment of the volunteers and the entire community in keeping alive a tradition that represents the identity and culture of our town." To manage the influx, the organization activated a free shuttle service from the parking lot near the church of Saint Anne for the January 1st, 2026, performance.
In the heart of the Municipality of Trivigliano and the Lazio Region, the living nativity remains one of the most genuine experiences to enjoy a traditional Italian Christmas.
For its 26th edition, the Trivigliano Living Nativity confirmed the traditional formula of two performances: Friday, December 26, 2025, and Thursday, January 1, 2026, both from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with free admission. The village in the province of Frosinone transformed once again into a vivid and evocative setting, thanks to volunteers, families, and hundreds of participants of all ages.
The evening of December 26 recorded an extraordinary success, with over 5,000 attendees in the historic center's alleys. The route, which extends and branches through the village streets, offered visitors an immersive experience between the sacred and the everyday, the result of the synergy between the Santa Maria Assunta parish and the group of organizers.
To manage the large influx, for the New Year's Day encore, the organization provided a free shuttle service departing from the parking lot near the church of Saint Anne (Via SP201, San Giovanni-Patroni area); the last trip was at 7:45 PM.
The Living Nativity traditionally takes place on December 26 and January 1, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in the alleys of the historic center of Trivigliano (FR).
Free admission, no booking required.
By car: from Rome, take the A1 motorway, exit Anagni-Fiuggi, then follow signs for Fiuggi-Trivigliano (about 1 hour); from Frosinone, take the expressway to Fiuggi. On evenings with higher attendance, a free shuttle service operates from the parking lot near the church of Saint Anne (Via SP201, San Giovanni-Patroni area), with the last trip at 7:45 PM.
The village is located at an altitude of about 780 meters: winter clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended, as the route is on foot through alleys and inclines. Updates are available on the official Facebook page of the Trivigliano Living Nativity.
