A neighborhood festival in the heart of Alatri

The Sant'Emidio Festival is one of the most cherished summer events in Alatri. Every year in early August, this district festival transforms the streets of the eponymous neighborhood in Alatri into a vibrant hub of faith and conviviality. In the heart of Ciociaria, in the province of Frosinone, the community gathers to honor Saint Emidio, the bishop and martyr from Ascoli Piceno, who is venerated throughout Italy as a protector against earthquakes.

The cult of Saint Emidio

Saint Emidio is traditionally invoked as a defender against seismic activity, and devotion to him is deeply rooted in Central Italy. In Alatri, the festival is born from the grassroots spirit of the neighborhood: families, neighbors, and volunteers organize the event, including taking the portrait of the saint to visit the elderly and the sick, and the solemn procession that winds through the streets of the district between Via San Pancrazio and Via Sant'Emidio.
