The festival that brings the accordion back home, to the village that built it for over a century
In Mondolfo, a refined hilltop village in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region, the accordion is no ordinary instrument: it is memory, identity, and pride. This is precisely why Tramantici - Festival della Fisarmonica was born, a summer event that every August brings the instrument back to the places where it was built and made known throughout the world. Promoted by the Municipality of Mondolfo with the patronage of the Marche Region, the festival reached its fourth edition in 2026.
Few people know it, but Mondolfo was one of the Italian capitals of accordion construction. Since the late 19th century, workshops and factories were born in the village, exporting fine instruments worldwide: among the historic names are Giovanni Sora (1867-1963), Silvestrini Aldo & Figli (1910-1974), and Romolo Galassi (1931-1952). Tramantici was created precisely to reconnect this thread, restoring to the community the awareness of an artisanal and musical tradition that has marked its history.
The festival is distinguished by its evocative settings. The main evenings are held in the Cloister of Sant'Agostino, in the historic centre of Mondolfo, while the closing is always entrusted to a dawn concert on the Marotta Pier, the seaside hamlet of the municipality: music accompanying the sunrise over the Adriatic, in an intimate and almost ritualistic atmosphere. All events are free admission.
Since the first edition in 2023, the artistic direction has been entrusted to Roberto Lucanero, an accordionist and ethnomusicologist, who was also the artistic director of the International Accordion Prize of Castelfidardo. His influence gives the festival a scope that ranges from Marche folk music to jazz, from world music to singer-songwriter music, with guests capable of showcasing all the facets of an instrument often wrongly considered merely folkloristic.
More than just a series of concerts, Tramantici has become a moment of identity for Mondolfo and Marotta. The free admission to events, the care taken with the locations, and the quality of the invited artists make it one of the most recognisable summer cultural offerings in the area, capable of attracting accordion enthusiasts from all over Italy and enhancing one of the most beautiful villages in the Marche hinterland.
The 2026 edition of Tramantici is the fourth of the festival dedicated to the accordion in Mondolfo (PU). The confirmation comes directly from the municipal administration: the councillor for culture, Even Mattioli, stated that work is proudly underway for the fourth edition in August 2026. Artistic direction remains with Roberto Lucanero, a guarantee of continuity from the first three editions.
As is tradition, a programme of free concerts is expected on summer evenings in the historic centre, with the usual dawn closing on the Marotta Pier. The exact dates and guest artists will be announced through the official channels of the Municipality of Mondolfo and the festival's Facebook page.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition, including artists, precise dates, and times, will be announced in the months preceding the festival through the official channels of the Municipality of Mondolfo and the Tramantici Facebook page.
Based on previous editions, the usual structure includes three evenings of concerts in the Cloister of Sant'Agostino (starting around 9:15 PM) and a final dawn concert on the Marotta Pier, all with free admission, under the artistic direction of Roberto Lucanero.
The main evenings take place in the Cloister of Sant'Agostino, in the historic centre of Mondolfo (PU). The final dawn concert is held on the Marotta Pier, the coastal hamlet of the municipality.
By car: take the Marotta-Mondolfo exit from the A14 (Adriatica) motorway, then a few minutes towards the historic centre. By train: Marotta-Mondolfo station on the Adriatic line, from which you can reach Marotta on foot and Mondolfo alto by bus or shuttle. Nearest airport: Ancona-Falconara.
All events are free admission.
The festival is traditionally held in the second half of August. For precise dates and the programme for the 2026 edition, it is advisable to consult the festival's official Facebook page and the channels of the Municipality of Mondolfo.
