About Trail del Barro

The Trail del Barro is the mountain race that brings Invorio to life every spring, nestled in the hills north of Novara, Piedmont. Organized by the ASD Le Volpi d'Invò, the event features competitive 25 km and 11 km races, a non-competitive walk, and events for children. With panoramic views stretching across the Alps and paths winding through villages where time seems to stand still, the event attracts hundreds of trail runners and nature enthusiasts every year.

A trail running festival in the Novara hills

The Trail del Barro is one of the most anticipated events in the northern Piedmont running calendar. It takes place in Invorio, a small town in the Province of Novara situated between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, and takes its name from Monte Barro, the peak that overlooks the trails where the race unfolds. Organized with passion by ASD Le Volpi d'Invò, the event has grown edition after edition to exceed 700 total participants, becoming a benchmark for trail runners in the lake district and the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area.

The routes

The Trail del Barro is designed to welcome every type of runner, from the experienced athlete to the family simply looking to enjoy a morning in the open air:

  • 25 km Trail: the main competitive route, approximately 25 kilometers with an elevation gain of about 900-950 meters D+, valid as a race in the FIDAL Piedmont calendar.
  • 11 km Trail: a shorter distance with about 300 meters of elevation gain, available in both competitive and non-competitive versions.
  • Non-competitive walk: a loop of about 3 kilometers suitable for everyone, to discover the trails without the pressure of a stopwatch.
  • Run&Fun and Cross dei Volpini: events dedicated to children, part of the Volpi Kids project.

Between alpine panoramas and timeless villages

What sets the Trail del Barro apart is the quality of its course: the paths cross woods, meadows, and small rural hamlets, offering open views of the Alps and the hills surrounding Invorio. The organizers carefully maintain the trails and set up refreshment points, while the atmosphere remains that of a genuine village festival, filled with volunteers, cheers at the finish line, and lively award ceremonies.

An event rooted in the territory

ASD Le Volpi d'Invò is more than just a sports club: it promotes guided hikes, night runs, activities for young people, and plogging initiatives focused on environmental care. The Trail del Barro is the synthesis of this spirit, capable of uniting sport, community, and the promotion of the hilly landscape of the Novara region, in the heart of the Piedmont lake district.

The nearest train station is Arona, on the Milan-Domodossola line. Meeting point and start line are at the Invorio Festival Area.

We recommend trail running gear, shoes with good grip, and a light jacket in case of uncertain weather: the route runs along hill trails that can be muddy.
