A night walk through the woods of the Monferrato Astigiano in Monale
Tra boschi e stelle is the night walk that brings the village of Monale to life every summer. Nestled in the hills of the Asti province, this town of fewer than a thousand residents lies in the heart of the Monferrato Astigiano. Organized by the Monale Municipal Events Office with the support of the local Pro Loco, the event offers an evening trek of approximately 8 kilometers through the surrounding woods and countryside, best enjoyed in the cool night air under the starlight.
Participants gather in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, in the historic center of Monale, dominated by the imposing medieval Scarampi castle. From here, a circular route begins, winding along dirt roads, country paths, and woodland trails, offering stunning night views of the Monferrato hills. Along the way, participants will encounter small theatrical performances that accompany the walk, transforming a simple hike into an immersive open-air narrative experience.
Upon returning to the village, walkers are welcomed with refreshments prepared by the Monale Pro Locoโa convivial moment that has become an integral part of this summer tradition. The event maintains a deliberately simple and familiar spirit: rather than a grand spectacle, it is an opportunity for the local community and visitors to experience the Asti countryside by night, rediscovering the paths and woods that surround the town.
Monale preserves its medieval character: its name derives from the Latin Mons Natalis, and the village is known for the Scarampi castle, the church of Santa Caterina, and its hazelnut production, typical of this part of the Monferrato. Situated in the wine-growing region of the Piedmont province of Asti, Monale is an authentic example of a small Piedmontese rural village, making it an ideal starting point for an evening dedicated to landscapes and local traditions.
The 2026 edition of Tra boschi e stelle is scheduled in Monale, in the province of Asti, for June 17, 2026. Participants will meet at 8:30 PM in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, with departure at 9:00 PM for a night walk of approximately 8 kilometers through the woods of the Monferrato Astigiano.
During the walk, there will be small theatrical performances, and at the end, walkers will be welcomed with refreshments provided by the Monale Pro Loco. The event is open to all ages.

By car, it is easily reached from Asti via the provincial roads of the Monferrato Astigiano; the meeting point is Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, in the town center. The nearest train station is in Asti, on the Turin-Genoa line, from where you can continue by car.

We recommend comfortable hiking shoes, evening-appropriate clothing, and a small flashlight. The route covers approximately 8 km on dirt roads and country paths. For overnight stays, the widest range of accommodation is available in Asti and the surrounding Monferrato Astigiano towns.
