The queen stage of the Euregio cycling race, starting from Arco
The Tour of the Alps is one of the most prestigious multi-stage cycling races on the international circuit, featured in the UCI ProSeries calendar. Organized by the Gruppo Sportivo Alto Garda A.s.d. based in Arco, the event traverses the territories of the Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino Euroregion every April, ideally bridging Austria and Italy across five challenging mountain stages. As the successor to the historic Giro del Trentino, the race serves as a fundamental testing ground for the world's best climbers ahead of the Giro d'Italia.
The Municipality of Arco, an enchanting town in the Garda Trentino area dominated by its medieval castle, takes center stage as the departure point for one of the most anticipated segments of the race. The Arco-Trento stage unfolds entirely on Trentino roads and is considered the true queen stage of the edition: 167.8 kilometers of racing with approximately 3,600 meters of positive elevation gain, capable of shaking up the general classification.
After the start from Piazza III Novembre, the peloton immediately tackles the Passo Bordala, a first-category King of the Mountains climb (14.8 km at 6.9%). In the central section, riders scale the Passo del Redebus, another first-category climb (12.9 km at 6.8%), before taking on a demanding 37-kilometer circuit through Baselga di Piné and Brusago. The final, technical stretch features the ascent of Povo—already a venue for the 2021 European Championships—before the descent toward the finish line in Trento.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the stage is a major popular celebration for the Garda Trentino area and the entire Trentino-Alto Adige Region. Along the route and in the departure area, the atmosphere of top-tier cycling is palpable, with fans, families, and enthusiasts crowding the streets and towns to witness the race pass by. Arco thus reaffirms its vocation as a cycling city and a prime gateway to the mountains of Trentino.
The 49th edition of the Tour of the Alps took place from April 20 to 24, 2026, featuring five stages across Tyrol, South Tyrol, and Trentino. The fourth stage, scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, connected Arco to Trento over 167.8 kilometers with 3,600 meters of elevation gain, establishing itself as the true queen stage.
The meeting point was held in Piazza III Novembre in Arco at 8:45 AM, with the official start at 10:45 AM and an expected arrival in Trento around 3:15 PM. The route featured the first-category KOMs of Passo Bordala and Passo del Redebus, the Baselga di Piné and Brusago circuit, and the final climb of Povo. Favorites included Tom Pidcock, Giulio Pellizzari, Egan Bernal, and Thymen Arensman.
Arco can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (exit Rovereto Sud/Lago di Garda Nord), continuing toward Riva del Garda. The nearest railway station is in Rovereto, which is connected to Arco by local bus services.
The riders' meeting point is in Piazza III Novembre. During the race, traffic modifications and temporary road closures are expected along the route.
Watching the race pass along the route is free of charge.
