The grand finale of the world's most prestigious U23 race, at the summit of the Gran Paradiso
On August 26, 2026, the municipality of Ceresole Reale, in the province of Turin (Piedmont), hosts one of the most anticipated events on the international cycling calendar: the final stage of the Tour de l'Avenir, the stage race for Under-23 riders, long considered the "Tour de France for young riders." Now in its 62nd edition, the event has chosen the mountains of the Gran Paradiso National Park for its grand finale, featuring a spectacular finish at Lago Serrù, along the SP50 provincial road that climbs toward the legendary Colle del Nivolet.
The final leg starts in Strambino and winds for approximately 130 kilometers with over 2,500 meters of elevation gain. The route crosses the heart of the Canavese, passing through towns such as Caravino, Romano Canavese, San Martino Canavese, Agliè, Rivarolo Canavese, Cuorgnè, and Pont Canavese, before entering the Orco Valley and the demanding final ascent toward Ceresole Reale. The finish line is set at an altitude of 2,275 meters, in an alpine setting of rare beauty that will test the best young climbers in the world.
For decades, the Tour de l'Avenir has been the showcase for future champions: its list of winners includes names that have gone on to dominate professional cycling. The 2026 edition takes place from August 20 to 26 and features a brand-new route starting in Normandy (Ouistreham Riva-Bella) and crossing France through the Loire Valley, Burgundy, and three alpine stages, including an individual mountain time trial and a crossing of the Col de l'Iseran, the highest paved mountain pass in Europe. The finale in Italy, on the roads of the Gran Paradiso, is an absolute novelty and a tribute to the allure of the Piedmontese mountains.
The finish in Ceresole Reale is the result of a collaboration between the organizer A-VELO (Alpes Velo), which manages the race with technical support from ASO (the company that organizes the Tour de France), and local authorities, starting with the Metropolitan City of Turin and the Gran Paradiso National Park Authority. For the Canavese area and the entire Piedmont Region, this is a major promotional opportunity, with the race broadcast internationally on Eurosport.
Like all major road cycling races, the stage is free and open to the public along the entire route. Fans can line the roads in the Canavese towns or climb up to the hairpin bends of the Orco Valley and the Colle del Nivolet to witness the summit finish, immersed in the landscapes of the Gran Paradiso. It is recommended to plan your day in advance, taking into account the temporary road closures scheduled for the caravan's passage.
