About GPFF

In Cogne, in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, the Gran Paradiso Film Festival has been showcasing the best of international nature cinema for almost thirty years. Documentaries, short films, and talks explore wildlife and the relationship between humans and the environment, with open-air screenings and events in the valleys of Aosta. The 29th edition, from July 27 to August 9, 2026, focuses on coexistence between humans and large predators.

The longest-running nature cinema festival in the Alps

Founded in 1998, the Gran Paradiso Film Festival is one of Italy's most important events dedicated to nature cinema. It takes place in Cogne, in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, and extends to the other valleys of the massif in Aosta: Valsavarenche, Rhêmes, Introd, Villeneuve, Aymavilles. The event is organized by the Fondation Grand Paradis, which has been promoting environmental culture in the Park area for years.

Documentaries, short films, and talks

The program revolves around several sections:

  • International Competition: the best nature documentaries of the year, judged by a technical jury and a popular jury that awards the renowned Grand Ibex Award;
  • CortoNatura: short films dedicated to nature and the environment;
  • GPFF Online: a selection of films available for streaming;
  • GPFF Off: talks, photographic exhibitions, side activities, and excursions.

A different theme each year

Each edition is built around a central theme. For 2026, the festival chooses a highly topical subject: the coexistence between humans and large predators, from wolves to bears, a theme that runs through screenings, debates, and meetings with experts. The public is invited to participate actively, including as members of the popular jury.

Cinema under the stars of Gran Paradiso

Watching a documentary about alpine wildlife right in the place where that wildlife lives—among the ibex, chamois, and golden eagles of Gran Paradiso—is the experience that makes this festival unique. Cogne, in the province of Aosta, becomes the capital of green cinema for two weeks, with a distributed program that takes viewers to discover the villages and valleys of Aosta.

GPFF — edition 2026

The 29th edition of the Gran Paradiso Film Festival takes place from July 27 to August 9, 2026, in Cogne and the Gran Paradiso valleys. This year's theme: coexistence between humans and large predators. The program includes the International Competition, CortoNatura, the Wild photography competition, and numerous talks.

The 29th edition of the Gran Paradiso Film Festival is scheduled from July 27 to August 9, 2026. The main venue is Cogne, with screenings continuing in the Gran Paradiso valleys (Introd, Rhêmes, Valsavarenche, Villeneuve, Aymavilles) and online.

The theme chosen for 2026 is the coexistence between humans and large predators: documentaries, debates, and talks explore the often-conflicting relationship between mountain communities and species like wolves and bears.
