The Torricella Sicura Carnival is the signature celebration of Torricella Sicura, a village of just over two thousand inhabitants perched on the hills of the Teramo province in Abruzzo, along the Tordino River valley at the foot of the Monti della Laga. Every year, between February and early March, the town transforms into an open-air stage where the community gathers to celebrate one of the most beloved traditions in the local calendar.
The heart of the event is the parade of allegorical floats and masqueraded groups that winds through the town center. The masks, colorful costumes, and structures crafted with artisanal dedication by local groups bring the route to life with music and fun, attracting families, children, and curious visitors from neighboring towns. The festival traditionally concludes with entertainment and an awards ceremony, honoring the creativity of those who worked on the floats and costumes.
The Torricella Sicura Carnival is promoted by the Torricella Carnival Committee, which brings together local volunteers and associations, with the patronage of the Torricella Sicura Municipal Administration. More than just an event, it serves as a gathering point for the entire town: a moment when the various districts of the municipality, from Ioanella to Santo Stefano, come together to share a tradition that strengthens the sense of belonging to the Torricella community.
Located a short distance from the provincial capital of Teramo, Torricella Sicura is a territory rich in nature and history, home to the Ethnographic Museum of Peasant Civilization and ancient churches such as the Church of San Paolo. Throughout the year, the town's calendar is enriched by events like the Corpus Domini Flower Festival and various food festivals, but it is the Carnival that opens the festive season, bringing color and cheer to the heart of the Abruzzo winter.
At the moment, the Torricella Carnival Committee and the Municipality of Torricella Sicura have not yet released the dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Torricella Sicura Carnival. Based on custom, the event is expected to return during the Carnival period, between February and early March, with the traditional parade of allegorical floats and masqueraded groups through the town streets. Definitive information will be published on the official channels of the Municipality and the Committee.
Torricella Sicura is located just a few kilometers from Teramo, in Abruzzo. By car, it can be reached via the A24 motorway (Teramo exit), continuing along the provincial road of the Tordino valley. The nearest train station is in Teramo, which is connected to the town by local bus services.
Participation in the festival is free. For updated dates and the program, it is recommended to check the official channels of the Municipality of Torricella Sicura and the Torricella Carnival Committee.
