About Torrice Carnival

The Torrice Carnival brings life to Torrice, a village in the Ciociaria region of Frosinone province, with a grand parade of allegorical floats in Piazza degli Emigranti. Launched in 2024 and organized by the Municipality in partnership with the Pro Loco, the event unites local districts, schools, and families with costumes, music, children's entertainment, and food stalls. The third edition, held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, wrapped up the Ciociaria carnival festivities with 17 floats and a procession led by schoolchildren carrying a message of peace.

A young carnival that has already become a tradition

The Torrice Carnival is the signature carnival celebration of Torrice, a small hillside town in the Ciociaria region, within the province of Frosinone, Lazio. Established in 2024, it has become one of the most popular carnival events in the area in just three editions. By tradition, the Torrice parade takes place after those in neighboring towns, serving as the grand finale of the Ciociaria carnival season. The event is organized by the Municipality of Torrice, led by Mayor Alfonso Santangeli, in collaboration with the Pro Loco Torrice, chaired by Simone Arduini, with the active involvement of local districts and the Ripi-Torrice Comprehensive Institute.

The allegorical float parade

The heart of the event is the allegorical float parade that travels through Piazza degli Emigranti and Via San Francesco d'Assisi, just below the entrance to the historic center. Alongside the floats crafted by Torrice's own artisans—the result of hard work by the Pro Loco and the Colle San Pietro and Mincini-Forcella districts—numerous floats from neighboring Ciociaria towns participate. In 2026, there were 17 floats featuring themes ranging from The Flintstones to The Simpsons, pirates to safaris, Brazilian rhythms to Gladiator, as well as Barbie and Ken, Tom & Jerry, Sonic, and Scooby-Doo.

A message of peace from the children

A distinctive feature of the Torrice Carnival is the opening of the parade, entrusted to the schoolchildren of the Torrice and Ripi Comprehensive Institute. In 2026, they led the procession carrying a banner dedicated to peace, featuring a dove, an olive branch, and their own colorful handprints forming a rainbow—a simple gesture that gave the celebration a meaning beyond mere entertainment.

Music, entertainment, and flavors

The festivities typically begin in the early afternoon, around 2:00 PM, and continue until evening. After the parade, Piazza degli Emigranti turns into an open-air dance floor with DJ sets, group dances, and disco music. There is no shortage of shows and entertainment for children, confetti, costumes, and a well-stocked food zone with stalls open all day, where visitors can sample traditional carnival sweets and local products.

A community at the heart of the event

The Torrice Carnival is, above all, a team effort. Institutions, associations, local districts, schools, and citizens work together for months to build the floats and organize the day, supported by the local police and civil protection. It is a model of community celebration that the mayor summarized as: when everyone works together, extraordinary results are achieved.

Torrice and the Ciociaria

Torrice is a hillside village just a few kilometers from Frosinone, in the heart of the Ciociaria, a land in southern Lazio rich in popular traditions, festivals, and historic carnivals. Attending the Torrice Carnival is also the perfect opportunity to explore the town's historic center, enjoy views over the Sacco Valley, and discover Ciociaria gastronomy, including fini fini pasta, sausages, and local wine.

Torrice Carnival — edition 2026

The 3rd edition of the Torrice Carnival took place on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in Piazza degli Emigranti. Postponed by a week due to bad weather, it was celebrated symbolically during Lent as the closing event of the Ciociaria carnival festivities. The parade featured 17 allegorical floats, led by children from the Torrice and Ripi Comprehensive Institute with their peace banner. Music, group dances, entertainment, and food stalls continued until evening.

Torrice Carnival 2026 — the third edition

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, starting at 2:00 PM, Torrice hosted the 3rd edition of the Torrice Carnival, organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the Pro Loco. Postponed by a week due to bad weather and thus celebrated during Lent, the festival still drew a large crowd to Piazza degli Emigranti and along Via San Francesco d'Assisi, confirming its status as the event that concludes the Ciociaria Carnival.

The procession was opened by the children of the Torrice and Ripi Comprehensive Institute, carrying a banner dedicated to peace decorated with a dove, an olive branch, and rainbow handprints. This was followed by 17 allegorical floats: three created by Torrice's own artisans—the Pro Loco and the Colle San Pietro and Mincini-Forcella districts—and others arriving from neighboring towns, with themes such as The Flintstones, The Simpsons, pirates, safaris, Brazilian rhythms, lions, Affari Tuoi, Gladiator, Barbie and Ken, Tom & Jerry, Sonic, Scooby-Doo, and a snowman.

After the parade, the square turned into a dance party with DJs and entertainers LolloZdj, the voice of Alex, Samuele Noce, and Francesco Testa from Radio Testa, featuring group dances and disco music until the evening. Mayor Alfonso Santangeli was present, along with guest Mayor Leonardo Ambrosi of Castro dei Volsci. All floats were awarded for their effort and creativity.
