The fried fish feast in the seaside heart of Torre Lapillo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Torre Lapillo Fried Fish Festival is one of the most cherished food and wine events of the summer in Porto Cesareo, a town in the province of Lecce, in the Ionian Salento. The event takes place in the historic center of the seaside hamlet of Torre Lapillo, along the streets surrounding the ancient coastal tower and the Piazza Mameli area, just a stone's throw from one of Puglia's most beautiful beaches.
The heart of the festival is, of course, the fried fish, prepared according to local maritime tradition: anchovies, squid, shrimp, and mixed catch from the Ionian Sea are lightly floured and fried on the spot, served hot and crispy in convivial portions. The fried fish is accompanied by other local specialties and Salento wine, creating a village-fair atmosphere that brings together entire families, vacationers, and passing visitors.
The event is more than just gastronomy: the festival evenings are enlivened by Salento folk music, performances, entertainment, and dancing in the square, in keeping with the welcoming and festive spirit of the Salento summer. The Pro Loco Torre Lapillo, which organizes the event, manages the setup of the stands and the entertainment program each year, as part of the rich calendar of summer events promoted by the Municipality of Porto Cesareo from June to September.
The Fried Fish Festival is free to enter: you only pay for the dishes purchased at the food stands. Its simple and genuine formula, combined with the evocative setting of the seaside village of Torre Lapillo, makes it an ideal stop for those spending their holidays along the Ionian coast of Puglia who wish to discover the authentic flavors of Salento tradition.
Torre Lapillo is the main hamlet of Porto Cesareo, a renowned seaside resort overlooking the Porto Cesareo Marine Protected Area. Its golden beaches and crystal-clear sea attract thousands of tourists every summer: the festival is the perfect opportunity to combine a day at the beach with an evening of great taste, immersed in the hospitality and folk traditions of Salento.
The Torre Lapillo Fried Fish Festival will return in the summer of 2026 to the historic center of the seaside hamlet of Porto Cesareo, in the province of Lecce. Official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: as every year, the Pro Loco Torre Lapillo will publish the program featuring Ionian fried fish, food stands, and evenings of music and dancing closer to the event. We recommend following the channels of the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Porto Cesareo for updates.
The festival is held in the historic center of Torre Lapillo, a hamlet of Porto Cesareo (LE), in the Piazza Mameli area, in the Ionian Salento.
By car: from Lecce, take the SS101 towards Gallipoli and follow signs for Porto Cesareo - Torre Lapillo (approx. 30 km). The nearest train station is Nardò-Centrale, connected by bus to the coast; the reference airports are Brindisi and Bari.
Free admission. You only pay for food and drinks at the stands.
The area is very busy during the summer months: we recommend arriving early and parking in the designated areas, then walking to the center.
