About Torre in Fiaba

Torre in Fiaba is a festival hosted by the Municipality of Torre del Greco, dedicated to children and families within the lush grounds of Villa Macrina, a historic Vesuvius-facing estate overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Featuring creative workshops, interactive concerts, and children's theatre performances, the event invites young audiences on a journey through classic fairy tales, nature lore, and maritime stories. Admission has traditionally been free, and the event is confirmed for the city's 2026 cultural calendar.

A fairy tale festival in the shadow of Vesuvius

Torre in Fiaba is a festival organized by the Municipality of Torre del Greco, in the Metropolitan City of Naples, specifically for children and their families. It is more than just a series of shows; it is a carefully curated experience designed to introduce young ones to theatre, music, and the visual arts through the universal language of fairy tales. The successful format alternates between creative workshops, interactive concerts, and full-scale theatrical performances, all held on the same afternoon in one location.

Villa Macrina, the heart of the event

The main venue is Villa Macrina, a historic Vesuvius-style residence at Via Nazionale 601, named after the Marchesa Macrina Palomba, the family's last owner. Today, the building houses the «Enzo Aprea» Municipal Library, which holds nearly 18,000 volumes, including over 2,000 rare books. The outdoor garden, complete with benches and a playground, regularly hosts cultural events and public initiatives. From the villa, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Mount Vesuvius, which is particularly breathtaking at sunset. In some editions, the festival has also extended to the nearby Parco Salvo D'Acquisto.

How a typical day is structured

In recent years, the schedule has begun in the late afternoon with introductory activities, concluding with a theatrical performance. The villa's grounds are divided into thematic areas:

  • an outdoor art workshop, generally aimed at children aged 5 to 10;
  • a space for the interactive concert, set up in the wedding hall and open to children as young as 2;
  • a theatre stage for the late afternoon performance;
  • a reading corner with books and picture books.

The age ranges suggested by the organizers are intentionally flexible: as the program notes remind us, art, music, and theatre have no age limit.

Organizers

The event was born from an initiative of the municipal administration led by Mayor Luigi Mennella and is managed by the Municipality's Culture Department, with funding from the Metropolitan City of Naples. Production is entrusted to the «La Fabbrica del divertimento» association, while the performances are provided by companies specializing in children's theatre. Recent editions have featured troupes such as «Il teatro nel baule», «I Teatrini» from Naples, the «Guardiani dell'Oca» from Chieti, and the Teatro Verde from Rome.

The 2026 edition

Torre in Fiaba is officially included in the 2026 cultural program set by the Municipality of Torre del Greco, which schedules it at Villa Macrina during the summer season, alongside events such as the Festa dei Quattro Altari (June 12-14), TorRidendo, and the Voci d'Autunno Jazz Festival. At present, the exact calendar and performance schedule have not yet been released; it is advisable to follow the Municipality's official channels for dates and program updates as they become available.

An appointment for Torre del Greco and the Vesuvius area

Torre del Greco is one of the most populous towns in the province of Naples and the entire Campania region, world-renowned for its coral and cameo craftsmanship. A free festival dedicated to childhood here carries a value that goes beyond mere entertainment: it brings children's theatre into a public villa, restores a green space to families, and creates a cultural habit that, in the organizers' intentions, fills a gap in live performance education. For those visiting the Vesuvius area in summer, it is also an opportunity to discover a less touristy, more authentic side of the coast between Naples and Pompeii.

Torre in Fiaba — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Torre in Fiaba is included in the cultural program approved by the Municipality of Torre del Greco, confirming the children's festival at Villa Macrina during the summer season. The calendar of events and the performance schedule have not yet been published; the date indicated in this entry is purely indicative and will be updated as soon as the municipal administration releases the final program.
