About Wild Boar Festival

In the heart of the Ciociaria region, the medieval village of Torre Cajetani celebrates its Wild Boar Festival every August, organized by the local hunting group I Lupi dei Monti Ernici. For two evenings, the town square fills with the aroma of wild boar specialties prepared according to local traditions, while folk music and dance parties bring the village summer to life. A genuine event that blends gastronomy, conviviality, and the atmosphere of one of the most charming villages in the Monti Ernici, in the province of Frosinone.

A food festival in the heart of the Monti Ernici

The Torre Cajetani Wild Boar Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in this small medieval village in the province of Frosinone, Lazio. Perched at over 800 meters above sea level on a spur of the Monti Ernici, just a few kilometers from Fiuggi, Torre Cajetani dominates the Ciociaria landscape with the unmistakable silhouette of its castle. Every year, in mid-August, the town square transforms into a large open-air dining room dedicated to the king of mountain cuisine: wild boar.

The hunters' kitchen

The festival is organized by the I Lupi dei Monti Ernici hunting group, who personally oversee the preparation of the dishes. This is the true hallmark of the event: the cooking is done by the local hunters themselves, guardians of recipes passed down through generations. The wild boar is served in traditional Ciociaria preparationsโ€”hearty, flavorful dishes that tell the story of the deep bond between the village and the surrounding woods. The stalls open in the evening in the town square, where guests dine outdoors in the fresh mountain air.

Folk music and dance nights

As per tradition, great food is paired with live music. In the 2025 edition, the first evening was enlivened by I Trillanti, a folk music group that brought the rhythms of Central Italian tradition to the village, while the second evening featured Erre2, keeping the square dancing until late. A proven format that mixes flavors, dance, and village conviviality.

The village summer

The Wild Boar Festival is the highlight of a summer calendar that is particularly rich for a town of just a few hundred inhabitants. Throughout August, the Municipality of Torre Cajetani and local associations offer open-air cinema, 1990s revival nights, Ferragosto concerts, children's shows, and running races like the Trial Torre. Those who choose to spend a few days here will find a calendar of events that keeps the village lively all month long, with the festival serving as the most delicious and popular moment.

Torre Cajetani, a village to discover

The festival is also an excellent opportunity to visit one of the most fascinating villages in inland Lazio. The town, whose documented origins date back to the 12th century, owes its name to the Caetani family and preserves an almost intact medieval layout, dominated by the Teofilatto Castle, a manor linked to the memory of Pope Boniface VIII. All around are the trails of the Monti Ernici, a destination for hikers, and the Fiuggi thermal baths and Lake Canterno are just a short distance away. The Lazio Region preserves a heritage of villages, woods, and traditions in this part of Ciociaria, which the Wild Boar Festival tells in its own way, with a steaming plate and an evening of music.

2026 Edition

The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced. Based on previous years, the festival traditionally takes place around mid-August, in the evenings leading up to Ferragosto. We recommend following the channels of the Municipality of Torre Cajetani and local press for confirmation of dates and the program.

Wild Boar Festival โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Torre Cajetani Wild Boar Festival has not yet been officially announced. Based on tradition, the festival is expected to take place around mid-August, in the evenings leading up to Ferragosto, in the town square of the Ciociaria village. As always, wild boar specialties prepared by the I Lupi dei Monti Ernici hunting group are expected, accompanied by live music and dance evenings.

Awaiting official dates

The Municipality of Torre Cajetani and the organizers have not yet published the dates for the 2026 edition of the Wild Boar Festival. In recent years, the festival has taken place in mid-August: August 11-12 in 2025, August 12-13 in 2024, always in the town square starting in the evening.

When the 2026 edition is confirmed, the program should follow the proven formula: food stalls with wild boar dishes cooked by the hunters of the I Lupi dei Monti Ernici group, an evening of folk music, and a dance night. The festival is part of the summer calendar of Torre Cajetani, which brings concerts, open-air cinema, and family events to the village between August and September.

This page will be updated as soon as the 2026 dates and program are announced by the organizers or local press.
