The Torchiarolo Carnival featuring parades, Salento music, and street food
The Torchiarolo Carnival is the carnival festival of the town of Torchiarolo, in the province of Brindisi, in the heart of Salento and Puglia. Although it is a recent event, having started in 2025, it has quickly won the affection of the community, transforming the town's streets and squares into a trail of colors, masks, and music in the days leading up to Lent.
The event is the result of a collective effort between the Torchiarolo municipal administration, local merchants, local associations, and parish groups. This synergy creates a program that blends the festive, popular nature of the street with a communal and traditional dimension, involving both adults and children in a single, great social gathering.
The heart of the event is the masked parade along the town center streets, featuring allegorical floats, costumed groups, and plenty of entertainment. There is no shortage of street food, with food stalls accompanying the festivities, while children and families can enjoy dedicated areas with mascots, games, and shows.
One of the hallmarks of the Torchiarolo Carnival is the presence of traditional Salento music. In its first edition, the Piazza Castello stage hosted Alla Bua, a group that draws from the traditional musical culture of Salento, blending pizzica, ethnic sounds, and dance rhythms, testifying to the deep bond between the carnival and the region's cultural identity.
Alongside the street events, the Torchiarolo carnival also has a communal and parish dimension: themed parades created with schools, catechism groups, and Catholic Action, where children and teenagers become protagonists, showcasing their imagination and creativity. It is this dual soul—festive and participatory—that makes the Torchiarolo Carnival a growing highlight in the event calendar of the province of Brindisi.
Located between Brindisi and Lecce, just a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast, Torchiarolo is a small town that preserves the authenticity of the most genuine Salento. Experiencing the carnival here means immersing yourself in Apulian hospitality and joy, far from the crowds of the major carnivals but with all the warmth of a local village festival.
For the second consecutive year, Torchiarolo celebrated its carnival in February 2026. The community parade on February 8th, titled "The Continents of the Earth", featured primary school students accompanied by older youths, who creatively represented the continents of the world. The parade was made possible through the collaboration between the municipal administration, Catholic Action, catechism groups, and local merchants.
The celebrations continued on February 11th with the second edition of the carnival event in the town center, a community gathering that renewed the festive appointment launched in 2025.
The parades and shows take place in the historic center of Torchiarolo (BR), along Via Brindisi and in the town's squares, including Piazza Castello and Piazza Municipio.
By car: Torchiarolo is located about 20 km from Brindisi and 30 km from Lecce, accessible via the SS613 and the provincial roads of Salento. By train: the reference stations are Brindisi and Lecce, connected to smaller towns by bus. By plane: the Salento Airport of Brindisi-Casale is about 25 km away.
Admission to the street events is generally free. For updated dates, times, and programs, it is recommended to contact the Municipality of Torchiarolo (tel. +39 0831 622085) or check the official channels.
