A food, wine, and cultural journey through the Old Town of Canosa di Puglia

Every summer, the historic heart of Canosa di Puglia, in the Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT) province, transforms into a grand itinerary of taste and culture with Tipicamente Canosa. The event, curated by the Pro Loco of Canosa di Puglia in collaboration with the Municipality, invites locals and visitors to explore the alleys and squares of the Old Town on foot, amidst food stalls, music, and little discoveries at every corner. It is more than just a food festival; it is an evening walk designed to rediscover the most authentic soul of this Northern Apulian city.
The common thread of the event is the PAT (Traditional Agri-food Products), of which the Canosa territory boasts numerous recognized excellences. Along the route, you can taste strascinati di grano arso, a fresh pasta with an ancient flavor rooted in peasant tradition; pane a prosciutto; Coratina extra virgin olive oil with its intense fruity notes; and the sweet Loconia percoca peach. These are accompanied by local wines, cheeses, and baked goods, telling the story of the Ofanto agricultural landscape that unites countryside, olive groves, and vineyards.
The core of the experience is the walk through the historic center: starting from the Pro Loco Info Point on Via Cavour, the itinerary winds through Piazza Tarpea, Piazza Bernini, Via Ospedale Vecchio, Piazza Iacobone, Via Marco Aurelio, Piazza Tiberia, Salita Purgatorio, Piazza Antica, Vico Purgatorio, Via Boccaccio, Piazza Solferino, and Salita Calvario. Each stop reveals glimpses of the village, open courtyards, and spots where flavors, sounds, and colors intertwine until late at night.
Beyond food, Tipicamente Canosa focuses on folk traditions: live music, dances like the typical quadriglia, handicrafts, and entertainment that engages families and curious visitors alike. Above all, it is a community celebration where the Pro Loco, volunteers, and local merchants collaborate to offer visitors the most genuine sense of Apulian hospitality.
The event is part of the Estate Canosina calendar, the season of events that enlivens the city during the summer months with concerts, cultural reviews, and food and wine events like "Strascinando". Tipicamente Canosa represents one of its most defining and popular moments, capable of linking the promotion of local products to the rediscovery of urban heritage.
An ancient episcopal seat and a crossroads of peoples on the Via Traiana, Canosa di Puglia preserves Daunian hypogea, early Christian mosaics, and the San Leucio complex. Experiencing Tipicamente Canosa also means traversing this stratification of history: the Old Town becomes the ideal setting for an event that combines gastronomy, culture, and the memory of the Apulian territory.
The 2026 edition of Tipicamente Canosa has not yet been officially scheduled at the time of writing. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to return in August in the Old Town of Canosa di Puglia, as part of the Estate Canosina program, with the evening trail featuring food stalls, local products, and moments of music and tradition. Dates, program, and times will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
