A re-enactment of traditional farming threshing in the village of Faraone

The Threshing Festival and Vintage Tractor Parade takes place every summer in the hamlet of Faraone, in Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata, in the province of Teramo. Organized by the Faraone Insieme association, the event celebrates the ancient agricultural traditions of the Val Vibrata, the hilly area in the far north of Abruzzo, close to the border with the Marche region and just a few kilometers from the Vibrata and Salinello rivers.
The heart of the festival is the threshing re-enactment, where, amidst the atmosphere of the late 20th-century farming era and antique machinery, wheat sheaves are threshed just as they were in the past. The demonstration attracts both adults and children, showcasing the gestures, tools, and rhythms of a rural world that defined the life of these villages for centuries. The entire event revolves around this threshing, blending memory, spectacle, and conviviality.
One of the most anticipated events is the vintage tractor parade, featuring a gathering of old agricultural machines restored by local enthusiasts. The parade, which over the years has become linked to the Memorial dedicated to the memory of Sergio Amadio, winds through the hamlet and concludes with a community lunch in the square, fostering a festive atmosphere and a deep connection to the community's agricultural roots.
The festival evenings bring the village of Faraone to life with street food, food stalls, and live music. There is no shortage of traditional Abruzzo and Teramo dishes, from arrosticini to meat specialties, accompanied by DJ sets and concerts by local bands. On Sunday, the program includes moments of popular and dialect theater that involve the entire community.
The festival is held in Faraone Nuovo, the settlement built after 1950, when the inhabitants of the ancient medieval village of Faraone were relocated to a safer area following landslides. The old village, of Lombard origin and mentioned as early as 1001, remains an evocative abandoned town today, while the community of Faraone Nuovo keeps its traditions alive through events like this festival. It is a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Val Vibrata and the Teramo region of Abruzzo.
The Threshing Festival and Vintage Tractor Parade in Faraone is expected to return in 2026, confirming a well-established tradition in the summer calendar of Sant'Egidio alla Vibrata. At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Faraone Insieme association.
Based on previous editions, the festival is usually held in the latter part of July and offers a re-enactment of traditional farming threshing, a parade of historical tractors, street food stands, and evenings of live music. To find out the detailed program for the 2026 edition, please consult the official social media channels of the event.
