The festival that unites Colle San Magno, Casalattico, and Terelle at Campo del Popolo

The Three Borders Mountain Festival is one of the most cherished events of the Ciociarian summer: a day that brings together the populations of Colle San Magno, Casalattico, and Terelle on the shared plateau of Campo del Popolo. For over thirty years, the festival has celebrated the ancient ties between these three villages of the Lazio Apennines, whose territories meet exactly where the event takes place, at the crossroads of their respective borders.
In 2025, the festival reached its 33rd edition, confirming its status as a defining event for these mountain communities in the province of Frosinone, in the Lazio region.
The heart of the festival is Campo del Popolo, a high-altitude clearing nestled at the foot of Monte Cairo, between the Comino Valley and the Liri Valley, in the area historically known as Alta Terra di Lavoro. It is a place of great scenic and symbolic value: here, the paths and pastures of the three municipalities converge, and for one day, the festival transforms the mountain into a large open-air square.
The event spans an entire day, from early morning until late afternoon, following a schedule consolidated over the years:
The character of the day remains that of a genuine community festival: a simple and inclusive gathering dedicated to the tradition, history, and shared culture of the three villages.
The food stalls are one of the main attractions of the festival. The stars are the typical products of the Ciociarian mountains and the Lazio Apennines: peasant cuisine, cheeses, cured meats, and specialties rooted in local shepherding traditions. The shared lunch at Campo del Popolo has always been one of the most anticipated moments for families and the many emigrants who return to the village for the occasion.
The Municipality of Colle San Magno, together with Casalattico and Terelle, preserves a heritage of traditions linked to mountain life. For these villages of the Ciociaria, the Three Borders festival represents an opportunity to meet and rediscover common roots in a natural setting of great beauty at the foot of Monte Cairo. In recent years, the promotion of local summer events has also benefited from programs dedicated to villages promoted by the Ministry of Culture.
The 2026 edition of the Three Borders Mountain Festival has not yet been officially scheduled at the time of publication. However, the event has a consolidated annual frequency and traditionally takes place in early August on the Campo del Popolo plateau, at the foot of Monte Cairo. As soon as the organizing municipalities release the official program, this page will be updated with dates, times, and appointments.
The festival is traditionally held in early August, usually on the first Sunday of the month. In 2025, it took place on Sunday, August 3rd.
Campo del Popolo, at the foot of Monte Cairo, in the territory shared between Colle San Magno, Casalattico, and Terelle (province of Frosinone, Lazio).
By car from the A1 Milan-Naples motorway, take the Pontecorvo or Cassino exits, then continue along the provincial roads towards Colle San Magno and the mountain. The final stretch is in a mountain environment: comfortable shoes and suitable clothing are recommended.
The event is free and open to the public.
