Glove puppet show of the Emilian tradition, in the Pineta della Rocca
In the heart of the Modenese Apennines, the Municipality of Montefiorino hosts a stop on the summer figure theatre review curated by the company I Burattini della Commedia. In the green setting of the Pineta della Rocca, at the foot of the historic castle that was the seat of the first Italian partisan republic, "L'acqua miracolosa" is staged, a traditional glove puppet show that revives an ancient Commedia dell'Arte scenario.
Two bizarre characters are mistaken for famous doctors and sent to court to heal a prince who is the victim of a spell. Amidst misunderstandings and disasters in the royal palace, the only hope of salvation is a miraculous water kept in a mysterious pot belonging to the witch Morgana. A story full of gags, twists, and diabolical interventions, told with the overwhelming rhythm and popular comedy typical of Emilian puppet theatre.
Directed and written by Moreno Pigoni, with sets by Christian del Grosso, the show lasts about fifty minutes and is suitable for audiences aged three and up. I Burattini della Commedia, a company based in Modena, preserves and renews the great tradition of Emilian figure theatre, staging masks and characters born from the region's popular culture.
The Montefiorino stop is part of a rich summer programme that brings dozens of puppet, puppet, and marionette shows to the parks, courtyards, and squares of numerous municipalities in the province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna. An initiative that enhances the outdoor spaces of the Apennine villages and, on summer evenings, transforms gardens and pine forests into small theatres for families.
For visitors, the show is also an opportunity to discover the village of Montefiorino, its Rocca, and the views of the upper Dolo valley, in an authentic corner of the Emilian Apennines.
