Schools, universities and research in dialogue in the heart of Terni
The Terni Festival – in its full name Didattica, Innovazione, Ricerca e Territorio (Education, Innovation, Research, and Territory) – is the cultural and scientific event that in Terni, in Umbria, builds a bridge between schools, universities, and the city. It was born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Terni, the University of Perugia, the Association for Terni as a university city, the "G. Briccialdi" Conservatory, and the Foundation of the Savings Bank of Terni and Narni (CARIT).
Unlike an event concentrated in a few days, the Terni Festival is a journey that unfolds from January to June. The core consists of morning meetings with secondary schools in the area, during which university professors, researchers, and professionals address an annual theme from multiple perspectives. These are complemented by afternoon lectures open to the public, a final event with awards for student projects and a concert by the Briccialdi Conservatory, and finally a Summer School for the most deserving students.
Hundreds of students from high schools in Terni, Spoleto, Narni, and Amelia participate in the festival, presenting projects that are evaluated for innovation and originality. The main venues are Palazzo Gazzoli and other city locations, with incursions also at the Manini Theater in Narni and the Terni prison.
The Terni Festival is also a tool for promoting Terni as a university city: it brings young people closer to the world of research, enhances the link between the University of Perugia and the Province of Terni, and brings high-level debate on science, health, and the environment into classrooms and squares.
The 4th edition of the Terni Festival, approved by the municipal council on October 23, 2025, took place from January to June 2026 around the theme "Health and Environment", exploring the link between human well-being and environmental sustainability.
The core of the program consisted of six morning meetings with schools (from January 20 to May 13), alongside two afternoon lectures open to the public and a final event with awards for student projects and a concert by the "G. Briccialdi" Conservatory. Concluding the festival was the first Summer School (June 26–27) dedicated to the most deserving students. The main venues were Palazzo Gazzoli, with stops also at the Manini Theater in Narni and the Terni prison. Students from nine high schools in Terni, Spoleto, Narni, and Amelia participated.
