The "Che spettacolo!" theatre season at the Teatro Comunale in Monastero Bormida
In the village of Monastero Bormida, in the province of Asti, the small Teatro Comunale on Via Marconi 19 becomes one of the most vibrant cultural hubs of the Upper Monferrato every winter. This is the home of Teatro nelle Valli Bormida, a season that for years has united the theatres of three municipalities across three neighbouring provinces in a single programme: Monastero Bormida (Asti), Cortemilia (Cuneo), and Spigno Monferrato (Alessandria).
The 2025/2026 edition is titled "Che spettacolo!" and is produced in collaboration with the Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo as part of the Corto Circuito project, with the support of the promoting municipalities and the Cassa di Risparmio di Asti. It is a festival designed to create a network between the Langhe and Monferrato regions and to prove that great theatre is not just for big cities.
The season's programme spans many languages of contemporary performance:
The stage at Monastero Bormida has hosted performers such as Andrea Bosca, who opened the season with La catena, Serena Balivo, Claudia Marsicano with the award-winning dance solo R.OSA, and Paolo La Farina, author and performer of several national premieres. A happy balance between big names and new creations.
Going to the theatre in Monastero Bormida is also an opportunity to discover a village in the Asti area, dominated by its castle and the Romanesque bridge over the Bormida river, in a valley of vineyards, woods, and ancient farming traditions. The festival is a precious appointment for the valley community during the winter months, a way to keep the cultural life of a hilly territory far from the large urban centres of Piedmont alive.
The 2025/2026 edition of Teatro nelle Valli Bormida, titled "Che spettacolo!", animated the Teatro Comunale of Monastero Bormida (AT) from October 2025 to May 2026 with a programme of eleven shows. Produced with the Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo as part of the Corto Circuito project, the season blended drama, comedy, music, and dance, alternating nationally acclaimed names and national premieres. The shows were mostly held on Saturday evenings at 9 PM, with full price tickets at โฌ15 and reduced at โฌ13.

By car: Monastero Bormida is located along the Bormida Valley, between Acqui Terme and Canelli; about 45 minutes from Asti, about 1 hour from Alessandria. The most convenient train stations are Acqui Terme and Canelli, from which you can continue by car or bus.
