The community dinner of the solidarity network in Piazza Matteotti, Ruvo di Puglia
Tavole a Festa is a highly anticipated June event in Ruvo: an evening of sharing that transforms Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, in the heart of Ruvo di Puglia (Metropolitan City of Bari, Puglia), into one large communal table. Born in 2019 from the NoixVoi ODV association, the event has become the symbol of the city's solidarity network, bringing together volunteer associations, parishes, brotherhoods, informal groups, schools, and families.
The heart of Tavole a Festa is not the food itself, but the encounter. The various local groups are randomly paired into mixed teams, so that groups that do not usually collaborate find themselves cooking, decorating, and inventing together. It is the idea of the "conviviality of differences" dear to Bishop Don Tonino Bello, a beloved figure in the Bari area: around the tables, bridges, relationships, and new solidarity alliances are built.
Each edition revolves around a theme that guides the decorations and performances. The evening blends several forms of expression:
Great attention is paid to sustainability: plastic-free tableware and natural materials for decorations testify to the ecological commitment of the organizing network.
Tavole a Festa does not have a single owner: the organizational coordination passes from year to year among the entities in the network. After the edition promoted by the Istituto Sacro Cuore, the baton was passed to the Cooperativa Oasi 2 - Comunità Oasi, under the patronage of the Municipality of Ruvo di Puglia. This relay makes the festival a shared asset of the entire city.
Those who arrive in Piazza Matteotti on the evening of Tavole a Festa find a vibrant and participatory square, where the boundary between volunteers and the public dissolves. It is an authentic way to discover the solidarity-driven face of Ruvo di Puglia, a city of art in Puglia also known for its archaeological heritage and ceramics: here, for one evening, the tradition of Apulian hospitality becomes a concrete and collective gesture.
The 5th edition of Tavole a Festa took place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, starting at 8:30 PM, in Piazza Matteotti in Ruvo di Puglia. The common thread was the theme of "Roots", which guided the decorations, dishes, and performances of the tables in a journey of reflection on the value of community.
As per tradition, associations and local entities collaborated in groups formed by lottery, giving life to new synergies in the spirit of Don Tonino Bello's "conviviality of differences." The evening alternated between creative performances, poetic challenges, and plenty of music. The team formed by the local Caritas and the Confraternity of the Purification and Our Lady of Sorrows of the San Domenico parish won the competition, but the most important result was once again the image of a vibrant and participatory square.
