In Palo del Colle, a town in the Bari metropolitan area of Puglia, the tarallo is more than just a snack: it is a true symbol of local identity. The area boasts a historic artisanal network with over a dozen bakeries, and it is from this vocation that the Tarallo Festival was born—a celebration honoring this crunchy baked ring and the master bakers who guard its recipe. Promoted by the Municipality of Palo del Colle in collaboration with the Pro Loco, the event fills the historic center with enticing aromas, flavors, and music.

Two days of taste and tradition

For an entire weekend, the town's squares, from Piazza Roosevelt to Piazza Matteotti, come alive with stalls featuring local producers and food artisans. Alongside taralli in all their varieties, visitors can sample local specialties: extra virgin olive oils, regional wines, craft beers, cheeses, and almonds. There is no shortage of experiential workshops and guided tastings, designed to share the secrets of tarallo production and the perfect pairings with Apulian culinary excellence.

Music, shows, and Notte della Taranta

The festival perfectly blends taste with entertainment: evenings are filled with live music, comedy acts, DJ sets, and activities for children. The most anticipated highlight is the concert by the Popular Orchestra of the Notte della Taranta, which brings the Salento pizzica to the square, turning the festival into a massive open-air folk dance—the beating heart of Southern musical tradition.

A local landmark event

The Tarallo Festival has grown rapidly since its 2024 debut, which drew over 12,000 visitors. The event is supported by the Puglia Region and organized in partnership with the Pro Loco, Confesercenti, Confcommercio, and the Urban Commerce District, confirming its vital role in promoting local trade and food tourism. For Palo del Colle, it is a unique opportunity to share its identity with an ever-growing audience of residents and visitors drawn by the authentic flavors of Puglia.
