Vintage cars climbing towards the Moncenisio Pass, following the tracks of Italy's oldest hill climb race
The Susa-Moncenisio Historical Re-enactment revives one of the most glorious chapters in motoring history: the famous «Corsa di gran salita» Susa-Moncenisio, first held in 1902 and recognized as Italy's oldest car race. Each year, the Veteran Car Club Torino brings dozens of classic vehicles back to the roads of the Susa Valley, in the Metropolitan City of Turin, for a gathering that blends automotive passion, sporting heritage, and the promotion of the Alpine landscape.
The heart of the event is the journey that starts in Susa and climbs, hairpin turn after hairpin turn, to the Moncenisio Pass, a small border municipality perched at over 1,400 meters in altitude and among the least populated in Italy. The convoy follows the same route that marked a fundamental milestone in automotive history, offering participants and spectators spectacular views of the Cottian Alps and the slopes overlooking France.
Over fifty cars parade along the road, divided into three categories: Pre-1953, Pre-1980, and Supercar. Among the most anticipated vehicles are four Bugatti T32 and T35 models, numerous Lancia Aurelia B20 and B24, and various Ferrari, all authentic collector's jewels. The 2026 edition features a special guest star: a 1967 Lancia Flaminia GT Touring, used by the ASI to test biofuels on historic vehicles.
Organized by the Veteran Car Club Torino in collaboration with the Fiat Historical Register and the Legends Sport Arena in Susa, and included in the ASI calendar, the re-enactment involves the entire valley. Scrutineering and the gathering take place in Susa, while the climb and the tour of the area touch upon iconic sites in the Susa Valley, from Lake Ferrera to the Novalesa Abbey. The 2026 edition also inaugurates the «1st Alberto Tribolo Memorial», dedicated to a historic figure of the club.
The 2026 edition of the Susa-Moncenisio Historical Re-enactment, the twenty-first, marked the debut of the «1st Alberto Tribolo Memorial», dedicated to the memory of a key figure of the Veteran Car Club Torino. The event brought together over fifty historic vehicles divided into the Pre-1953, Pre-1980, and Supercar categories, featuring four Bugatti T32 and T35 models, numerous Lancia Aurelia B20 and B24, and various Ferrari.
Among the protagonists, a 1967 Lancia Flaminia GT Touring used by the ASI to test biofuels, driven by journalist Marco Belletti. The two-day event combined the climb towards the Moncenisio Pass with the discovery of the Susa Valley territory, in the province of Turin.
Vehicles divided into three categories: Pre-1953, Pre-1980, and Supercar.
The gathering and scrutineering are held in Susa (TO), at the Legends Sport Arena, Corso Luciano Couvert 31. The climb reaches the Moncenisio Pass through the Susa Valley, in the province of Turin.
Susa can be reached via the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway, taking the Susa exit, and is served by the Turin-Bussoleno-Susa railway line. From Susa, continue along the Strada Statale 25 del Moncenisio towards the pass.
As this is a vintage car rally on mountain roads, we recommend clothing suitable for the altitude and following the organizers' instructions along the route. The event is free for the public wishing to admire the cars in transit.
