The historic singing competition of Castellaneta, blending music and charity
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Superminifestival has become a well-established tradition in Castellaneta, a town in the Province of Taranto, in the heart of the Ionian Puglia region. Every year, in the first days of January, the event transforms the "7 Febbraio 1985" Auditorium into a true stage for song, where local voices test their skills before an audience and a jury. Founded in 2008, the festival reached its "coming of age" in 2025 with its 18th edition, a sign of its deep roots in the Castellaneta community.
The Superminifestival format is that of a genuine singing festival spread over several evenings. Contestants are divided into two categories: adults, who perform songs from the Italian pop repertoire, and youth and children, who liven up the event with songs and dance routines. Throughout the evenings, the jury proceeds with eliminations until the finalists and winners of each category are crowned, in an atmosphere of healthy competition and great popular participation.
Beyond its entertainment value, the Superminifestival has a charitable soul that sets it apart: part of the funds raised during the evenings is donated to local associations and charitable causes, such as the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Taranto. It is this blend of music, community, and generosity that makes the event much more than just a singing contest.
The event is organized by the A.N.S.P.I. "Don Nunzio Picaro" Group, under the patronage of the Municipality of Castellaneta. Artistic direction, hosting, and stage management have been entrusted for years to Piero Giandomenico, supported by the musical direction of maestro Leonardo Scarpetta. A dedicated group of volunteers handles the set design, logistics, and hospitality, contributing to the event's genuine and familiar character.
For those visiting Castellaneta and Puglia at the beginning of the year, the Superminifestival is an opportunity to experience an authentically local evening, far from the usual tourist circuits, filled with emotion, applause, and the talent of the Ionian region's voices.
Details for the 2026 edition of the Superminifestival of Castellaneta have not yet been released. Following the tradition of the event, organized by the A.N.S.P.I. "Don Nunzio Picaro" Group, it is usually held in early January at the "7 Febbraio 1985" Auditorium, featuring singing competitions for adult and youth categories and the customary charitable purpose. As soon as the official dates and program are published, this page will be updated.
