The distributed festival that transforms Umbria into an open-air stage
Suoni Controvento is one of the most original cultural events of the Umbrian summer. Born as a performing arts festival, it intertwines music, shows, literature, and social engagement in symbolic places of the region, transforming Umbria into a large open-air stage. The Rocca Maggiore in Assisi (province of Perugia) is the most scenic and iconic venue of the festival.
The distinctive feature of Suoni Controvento is its dialogue with the landscape: dawn or sunset concerts, musical treks, literary encounters in villages and natural spaces. The festival pays great attention to sustainability, with lightweight structures, clean energy, and certified carbon footprint calculation. Over the years, it has hosted artists such as Brunori Sas, Afterhours, Raphael Gualazzi, PFM, and Dardust.
While Assisi is its focal point, Suoni Controvento extends to numerous municipalities in Umbria โ from Spello to many other villages โ with a program that runs for several weeks between July and September. It is organized by the Associazione Roghers in collaboration with the Municipality of Assisi and with the support of the Umbria Region.
The 2026 edition marks the tenth anniversary of Suoni Controvento and promises to be one of the richest. At the Rocca Maggiore in Assisi, major names from the Italian scene will perform โ I Cani, Mannarino, Coez, and Angelina Mango โ in evening concerts within the medieval fortress.
The most anticipated moment is the finale on September 13: Giovanni Allevi with a symphony orchestra in the Upper Basilica of Saint Francis, in collaboration with "Cortile di Francesco". The festival maintains its distributed nature with events in other Umbrian municipalities, such as the C.S.I. concert at Villa Fidelia in Spello.
