About Birba chi legge

Birba chi legge - Festival of Stories is the storytelling festival for children and young people that transforms Assisi into a grand open-air fairy tale every September. For a long weekend, squares, alleys, gardens, the Rocca, the Roman Forum, and the most evocative places in the historic center host stories that are read, narrated, sung, danced, drawn, and dramatized, with itinerant shows, creative workshops, literary walks, and meetings with authors and illustrators.

Assisi becomes a grand fairy tale

Birba chi legge - Festival of Stories is the storytelling festival for children and young people in Assisi, in the province of Perugia. For a long weekend in September, the city transforms into a living book: stories come out of the pages and "invade" squares, alleys, gardens, and symbolic places in the historic center, from the Rocca to the Roman Forum, from the Crypt of San Rufino to Monte Frumentario, up to the Bosco di San Francesco.

Stories in all forms

The festival offers stories that are read, narrated, sung, danced, drawn, and dramatized: itinerant shows and children's theater, creative and musical workshops, literary walks, book presentations, meetings with authors and illustrators, and training seminars for teachers and operators. A program designed to engage children, young people, families, and enthusiasts of all ages.

A cultural project for the city

Conceived and organized by the Birba association in collaboration with the Municipality of Assisi and with the support of the Fondazione Perugia, the festival promotes reading as a shared and joyful experience, while enhancing the historical and artistic heritage of Assisi, which becomes the natural setting for the tales. Among the events, there is also the award ceremony for the national competition "A library in every school".
