The forum of culture, dialogue and society in the cloister of the Basilica of San Francesco
Cortile di Francesco is the cultural festival of Assisi (province of Perugia, in Umbria) organized by the Fraternity of the Conventual Franciscan Friars of the Basilica of San Francesco. Born in the wake of the "Cortile dei Gentili" (Courtyard of the Gentiles), it revives the idea of a meeting space between believers and non-believers, between different worlds and languages, to reflect together on the great issues of contemporary times in the light of the message of Saint Francis.
The program alternates master lectures, dialogues, round tables, and artistic moments, with the participation of scholars, scientists, economists, journalists, religious figures, and artists. Topics range from fraternity to environmental care, from economics to peace, from culture to communication: each edition is built around a common thread that unifies the days.
A distinctive feature of Cortile di Francesco is its openness: the meetings are held in the spaces of the Sacred Convent and the Basilica with free admission and are also broadcast live streaming. A festival that makes Assisi, a city symbol of universal fraternity, a laboratory of thought open to the world.
The 11th edition of Cortile di Francesco is dedicated to the theme "CreAzione" (CreAction) and unfolds over two weekends, from September 10 to 13 and from September 17 to 20, 2026. The event is organized by the Fraternity of the Conventual Franciscan Friars of the Basilica of San Francesco and is part of the "San Francesco Vive" program for the eighth centenary of the Saint's death.
As tradition dictates, meetings are free admission without reservation and broadcast live streaming.
The 2026 edition, titled "CreAzione" (CreAction), is divided into two weekends: September 10-13 and September 17-20. The festival will feature meetings, dialogues, and lectures with speakers from the worlds of culture, science, information, and civil society, centered on the theme of creativity and creation.
The meetings are held in the spaces of the Sacred Convent and the Basilica of San Francesco, with free admission without reservation and live streaming.
The detailed schedule of the days, with speakers, times, and titles of the meetings, will be published by the organizers on the official website in the weeks preceding the event.
The meetings are held in the spaces of the Sacred Convent and the Basilica of San Francesco in Assisi. The city can be reached by train (Assisi-Santa Maria degli Angeli station, with buses to the center) and by car from the SS75.
Admission to the meetings is free. Events are also broadcast live streaming on the official festival channels.
