The Sunset Concert for the Summer Solstice is one of the most evocative events of the summer in Monzuno, in the heart of the Bolognese Apennines (Metropolitan City of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna). Organized by the Associazione Pro Loco Monzuno, the event is held every year on the longest day of the year, June 21st, on the occasion of the summer solstice.

The setting is Le Croci, a panoramic viewpoint along the famous Via degli Dei, the ancient path connecting Bologna to Florence across the Apennine ridges. As the sun descends behind the mountains, live music fills the air in one of the most beautiful sunsets in the area.

The music of the town

The protagonists of the concert are two historic musical groups from Monzuno: the Banda Bignardi and the Corale Aurelio Marchi. The Banda Bignardi, active for over a century, owes its name to the local doctor Pietro Bignardi, who promoted its foundation; today it continues to represent the musical soul of the town. Together with the choir, they accompany the audience with a repertoire designed to harmonize with the quiet of the evening and the light of the sunset.

Ascend on foot, between nature and tradition

Reaching Le Croci is already part of the experience. Those who love walking can participate in the guided excursion, a loop of about 12 km starting from the Oratorio di Montevenere in the early afternoon, of medium-easy difficulty. Alternatively, you can walk up with accompaniment starting from the Pro Loco headquarters, in Piazza XXIV Maggio, with a shuttle service for the return at the end of the evening.

The buffet under the stars

At the end of the concert, the Pro Loco Monzuno offers the traditional buffet under the stars: a convivial moment where the community gathers outdoors, amidst the lights of the newly begun summer night. It is an opportunity to savor the hospitality of a small Apennine village and to close the longest day of the year in good company.
