High-altitude aperitif and moonlit nature walk in Upega
The Sunset Aperitif is one of the most poetic initiatives in the summer calendar of Upega, an ancient Brigasca hamlet in the municipality of Briga Alta, in the province of Cuneo, in the far south-western corner of Piedmont. Organized by Pro Loco Upega in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Piaggia, the event aims to combine a social gathering with a nature walk through the pristine landscape of the Upper Tanaro Valley.
The meeting is set for the late afternoon: after a convivial aperitif, participants can continue with a short optional hike to a panoramic viewpoint to enjoy the spectacle of the sun setting behind the mountains. The return journey follows a charming path through the woods, illuminated by the light of the full moon. The route is described by the organizers as accessible to all, designed for families and walkers of all fitness levels.
Nestled at an altitude of approximately 1,300 meters at the confluence of several streams and surrounded by dense forests, Upega is one of the most isolated and fascinating villages in the Piedmontese Ligurian Alps. It is part of the so-called Terra Brigasca, a border territory with a strong cultural and linguistic identity, where ancient pastoral traditions are still preserved. Summer brings life back to the village, and the Pro Loco enlivens the season with a rich program of events: from the feast of Saint Anne to the traveling tasting event Mangiaa Brigasc, and the transhumance festival.
More than just a party, the Sunset Aperitif is a slow and immersive experience, perfect for those seeking a different way to enjoy the mountains: a toast among friends, the fresh evening air, the colors of the sunset on the peaks, and the silence of the moonlit forest. An ideal opportunity to discover an authentic and little-known corner of Piedmont, far from the major tourist flows.
The date for the 2026 edition is confirmed for Saturday, July 11, 2026, in Upega, a hamlet of Briga Alta (CN). The event, organized by Pro Loco Upega in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Piaggia, includes a mountain aperitif followed by an optional sunset hike and a nighttime return through the woods by moonlight, along a route accessible to everyone.
At the moment, the detailed schedule, the final meeting point, and participation costs have not yet been released: the Pro Loco will publish the full program for the 2026 events in the weeks leading up to the festival. Participation is by advance telephone booking.
