The classic car regularity rally across the Alpine passes, featuring a stage and elegance contest in Pellizzano
The Summer Marathon is one of the most prestigious classic regularity events in the Alpine region. Organized by Classic Car Experience, it takes place every year at the start of summer, transforming the mountain roads between Lombardy and Trentino-Alto Adige into a grand stage for vintage cars, youngtimers, and supercars. The route spans three stages and several hundred kilometers, crossing numerous Alpine passes with a total elevation gain of thousands of meters, amidst Dolomite panoramas and mountain lakes.
The Municipality of Pellizzano, in the province of Trento, is one of the key locations on the route. Situated in the Val di Sole, at the foot of the Adamello-Presanella group and the Stelvio National Park, the town hosts one of the rally's stages and one of its elegance contests. The competing vehicles parade through the town center, offering enthusiasts and curious onlookers the chance to admire rare and sought-after models up close in a charming Alpine setting.
The Summer Marathon formula combines competition with spectacle. The regulations include:
Beyond the sporting dimension, the Summer Marathon is an opportunity to showcase the regions it traverses. The stages touch upon Alpine villages, tourist resorts, and valleys of great scenic value, with side events and social gatherings involving the local community. For Val di Sole and Pellizzano, the arrival of these vintage vehicles is a highly anticipated appointment, drawing motor enthusiasts and visitors during the time of year when mountain nature is at its most splendid.
Those in Val di Sole during the event can watch the passage and the elegance contest for free, admiring vehicles that tell the story of the evolution of automotive design and technology. It is an experience designed for both connoisseurs and families, combining a passion for engines with the discovery of one of the most evocative landscapes in Trentino-Alto Adige.
The fourteenth edition of the Summer Marathon was held from June 4 to 7, 2026, organized into three stages for a total of 658 kilometers and a total elevation gain of approximately 13,800 meters. The route crossed seven Alpine passes — including Crocedomini, Tonale, Palade, Giovo, Mendola, Campo Carlo Magno, and Paganella — touching the Upper Valcamonica with Ponte di Legno, the Val Passiria, the Val Isarco, the Val di Sole with Pellizzano, and Trento.
The sporting program included 32 classic precision time trials, in addition to time controls and stamp controls. Three groups of vehicles were admitted: 70 vintage cars (up to 2000), 20 youngtimers (2001-2010), and 30 supercar tributes (from 2011). Three elegance contests open to the public were set up in Ponte di Legno, Pellizzano in Val di Sole, and Trento.
The passage through the Municipality of Pellizzano represented one of the most anticipated moments of the edition: the parade of vehicles and the elegance contest enlivened the town center, attracting enthusiasts and visitors to the heart of Val di Sole.
Pellizzano is located in Val di Sole (Trentino), along the SS42 Tonale and Mendola state road. By car, it can be reached from Trento by traveling up the Val di Non and Val di Sole; the nearest motorway exit on the A22 Brenner motorway is San Michele all'Adige/Mezzocorona. By train, it is served by the Trento-Malè-Mezzana railway (Trentino Trasporti), with a stop in Pellizzano.
Watching the passage of the vehicles and the elegance contest is free and open to the public along the town streets. Participation in the race is reserved for crews registered according to the organizer's regulations.
