The night parade of allegorical floats on the Portopalo seafront
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In Portopalo di Capo Passero, a town in the province of Syracuse marking the southeastern extremity of Sicily where the Ionian and Mediterranean seas meet, the famous Carnival of the Two Seas enjoys a second life in the heart of summer. The Summer Carnival of the Two Seas captures the spirit of the major winter event and transports it into the nights of July, when the mild climate and open-air evenings transform the town into an open-air stage.
The heart of the event is a night parade that travels along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the town's main street, ending in the evocative Piazza Terrazza dei Due Mari, which overlooks the point where the two seas converge. The parade features the allegorical floats from the winter edition, the result of the craftsmanship of local associations, repurposed and enriched for the occasion with entertainment, group dances, and choreography.
Designed specifically for families, the event is now a beloved fixture of Portopalo's summer calendar, capable of attracting thousands of people from Pachino, the entire province of Syracuse, and the rest of Sicily. It is an expression of a deep-rooted popular tradition: the Carnival of the Two Seas, now in its nineteenth year in its winter version, engages the town's associations and youth all year round in the construction of floats and costumesโa heritage of folklore that the summer version allows everyone to experience under the summer stars.
As the extreme tip of Sicily, Portopalo di Capo Passero is famous for its beaches, the Isola delle Correnti, and the merging of the waters of the two seas. Experiencing the Summer Carnival means discovering this corner of the Syracuse coast on one of its most festive evenings, amidst colors, masks, and the maritime atmosphere of the village. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: it is recommended to check for updates on the social media channels of the Carnival of the Two Seas and the Municipality.
